Touring - I am off to cycle Europe!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok, tomorrow I will be off for a five-month cycling trip around Europe. My plan is to fly to England and cycle to Spain via France. After France, I will visit the Porto region of Portugal before returning to Spain and then back to France. Corsica and Sardinia are on my list of places to cycle and after that, I am not sure. I will probably stop in Belgium to visit family and will spend a few weeks in Denmark visiting friends. I have no plans to do a travelogue while traveling, but I may write something when I return. However, I will update this thread with the occasional report when I am near a computer. Thanks to everyone who has offered advice and information over the past few months.
Regards,
Gordon

You get out of the cities and into the country, you will find yourself elevated to hero status by bike lovers everywhere.
It is in their blood... That is my experience...I hope you use maps that get you into the back country with roads designed for the pleasures of cycling...Don't do some research you might not find them...
Cycling into town squares with panniers full, always attracts the bike lovers to comment and befriend you...During my tours, I can not recall, the attention a cyclist receives, gettting them invited to homes to share meals and share stories. unfortunately, most of the time I traveled with a group and our schedule precluded such contacts.
I recall cyclist frienzied citizens marveling over my USA jerseys and wanted to buy the shirt off my back..Smell and all.....Busy cities this reception is lessened, but I hope you will experience it...
I recall cycling with nationals whose understanding of my language was limited, yet we cycled together and shared in our love of the sport..Somehow, there was still communication and felt welcomed... I hope the sunflowers are out and you find yourself in the same fields/pathways that famous cyclist photographers find for great cycling poses. Awesome..Let us know how it goes..I wish you the same luck...
