I was riding at some local Dh trails yesterday and after my last run of the day, i went to these small flatland drops. I did the small one (about 4 ft) easily and i decided to do the larger one. This is probably only about 5 ft or something but as soon as i landed, BANG! My derialler had snapped and the derailler was hanging by cable and chain!!

Also, when this happened, my back wheel, which was already screwed, buckled enough so my tire started rubbing against the frame. (i will replace this soon!)

Im now wondering if i can (or should) buy just a new hanger and wheel and be done with it or take it to a bike shop like my friend did to get it fixed (which was very expensive) because he said 'they find out the reason it happened'. Did it happen because of my screwed back wheel?

Please help guys thanx

My guess is that when you landed, and tacoed your wheel, it was forced INTO the rear derailleur and snapped it off.

A new derailleur hanger and new wheel does not necessitate having the shop fix it as long as you have the proper tools to remove your cassette off your old wheel and transfer it to the new one.

Before you do that, clean your bike really well and inspect all your welds for cracks.

And check the chainstays for alignment.

I dont know if my wheel buckled enough to snap the derailer off but you might by right.

I will fix ther hanger by myself cos thats easy but ill get a shop to do the wheel

I will also check my bike for cracks and chainstays
