Hey all. I am going to start training for my first triathlon through Team in Training and I am considering getting a new bike. My current bike is a 2000 Specialized Allez Elite that is too small and too stiff. I really want to enjoy my training rides and that is just not possible on my current rig. I am also looking to do some light touring once I am done with the triathlon and don't really want to buy two road bikes. I have been looking into some steel frames and I seem to like the Soma Smoothie ES as it offers a bit of a more relaxed riding position and the ability to cary a load while still being a little sporty. Also I am not really trying to be at all competitive in the Triathlon, I just want to enjoy it! So here are my questions:

Am I being silly trying to get a bike that can both tour and triathlon?

Is the Soma smoothie ES a good choice for both those options?

If it fits you, you will be fine for both disciplines. Also, read the sticky thread on this exact topic (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=436387). It will help you learn what criterion you should be considering in a triathlon bike purchase.
