I want a storage device for my battery that will lock on to the rack on the back of my bike so that no one can take it off. I want it to have a lock on the top so that only a key can open it. and i also want it to be waterproof, and if possible, insulated so that the suns heat doesn't make the inside hot. And for one last feature, i want it to look nice. nothing fancy, just something that blends in so no one cares to take notice of it when I'm riding. i need all of this to be done by the bag itself, i cant buy a special rack to do this seeing as me e-bike needs the one that came with it. is there anything like this that i can buy?

yeah i know, but it seems to be a dead thread. plus, nothing there is what im looking for. no one shows how they actually lock onto the rack. and thats why i dont find any use for that thread.

well of course, but what kind, how do they work for specifically holding a bag that holds a battery onto any rack. of course you need a lock of some sort, but the response needs to be more specific than that.

Here is what I'm using for my LiFePO4 and controller:
http://www.amazon.com/Sunlite-Locking-Rack-Bicycle-Box/dp/B0012TOGDA
Water proof, lockable, discrete and roomy enough for my 24lb brick of a battery!
I"ll vent it if I have to and mount an emergency kill switch within reach on the front.

They had a sale for 25% off this summer. Paid $22.49 for it. It is the same quality as a similar one I saw in a local bike shop. The Amazon model is surely of the same quality too. The lock on these are there for peace of your mind only. They are very fragile and can be broken into easily.

My battery is under the seat. The seat needs to be removed to get it. I lock it by running a chain through my seat and the bike's frame to make it impossible to remove and lift the seat. Although, if someone REALLY wants it, there's no lock that will prevent a thief from getting it. It slows them down only and the hope is that they'll move to an easier target.

hmm...is there something stronger that i can get? at first i was things on one that has 2 zippers on top and i can just put a pad lock through the 2 holes on the zippers so no one gets in. so it wouldn't be plastic, it would be strong fabric i guess?

for example, 2 zippers

and a lock that goes through those holes

all on a bag like this

EDIT- i like the features of this bag, do you think i should get this one alone with lock idea i have above?

since you are posting so many pics, here is one, inspired by the picture pwning thread:
do not use the bag system, use a case of plastic, or look into pelican cases, or other durable cases
for a locking mechanism use a nice pad lock, drill a hole into the case on the top and bottom to allow the lock to loop through and lock and reinforce it with steel plates with holes, or not.

the bag can be cut, easily, especially by someone who realizes you have an electric bike

batteries can be several hundred dollars, even in the thousands if they are Li-Ion
they can be obtained and resold for profit

so don't use a bag, or pannier, they are easy to breach, and quick, no matter what locking system you have you will have expensive batteries stolen

1. Separate the controller from the batteries.
The controller can even be worth $100 or more.

2. Use a hard case, even a fire case if you waterproof it well enough.

3. Park in lit areas, usually populated.

4. Don't leave anything on that might be taken off easily. This attracts predators. e.g. a lion is in the savannah. nothing. it tastes a drop of blood, then all hell breaks loose.

same thing, if a thief steals a piece off...why not steal more?

5. use good locks, don't skimp. Dudley, get a padlock with a bolt shield.

6. Use a kryptonite lock.

pelican cases
http://search.mec.ca/?N=10&Ntt=pelican&bmUID=1222210880379
they can be locked closed
you can also attach a metal loop on it for looping a wire through
http://tenuouslink.net/blogs/gadgets/uploaded_images/retainingloop.jpg
or put a wire through the hole that is in it, or drill your own hole on the bottom (prevents rain)
