Was thinking about buying a Takara project bike... Any thoughts on the brand/frame? Here's a picture...

How much? Forks look bent.

$25 - does not come with wheels. It's cheap base price, but I'd like an opinion about the brand/frame before I do it because it's probably at least a $200 project.

Sure, might be fun and the price is pretty much giving it away.

But yeah, those forks look bent. I like the chrome and it fits fenders, so it could be a great rain/beater bike.

$25 for what is pictured? Or just the frame/fork?

Everything except wheels.

my dad has had the same takara since maybe 1985 and he rides it to work everyday. for 25 bucks you might as well. I paid for 25 for my complete takara.

If you are going to spend $200 on parts, they could easily be transfered to another frame down the road, while you beat the hell out of one you got for $25. You can't loose.

Meh, I wouldn't buy just the frame for $25, it is a dumpster bike, that is pretty obvious. With the wheels and rideable, I would have considered it but I would walk from this one.

if the fork wasn't bent, i think it could be cool -- i like the chromed elements (fork, seat stays, chain stays), and takara is a good brand, in my opinion.

my friend has one and loves it. they're not horrible frames. it's very pleasing aesthetically as well.

Mass produced steel lugged frame. Made to compete with schwinn in the 80's. Well made. Got one in my shop right now that I'm building up for a kid. Score for $25. Buy it. The quill stem is an odd size. If I remember correctly it is Gran Comp .833. Make sure you can get it (stem) cause they're hard to come by.

Well, I figure for wheels (+cog), seat (that thing looks ratty), handlebars (don't like bullhorns), and maybe crank... I have pedals around the house, but might get new ones if the bike starts to take form...

Stem being a weird size kinda worries me a little... I don't think the fork is bent...

Still unsure on it, but seems like a fun project just to do it... Worst case i sell it for close to my total cost of putting it together (?)

Could try my hand at painting...

Dang, pretty sure I got gayed on this one... Called the guy and said I'd buy this bike. He said he'd call back in an hour and let me know if either this one or a Schwinn that was a similar situation was available (I guess he had someone coming to look at another bike and didn't know which one the guy would actually end up with). Never called me back and the listings were deleted...

I feel so hosed.

This, on top of getting the rear wheel for my mountain bike back from the shop (needed a new axle - could have done it myself, but they had to order the part anyway, so I left the wheel with them) and now the gears are all screwed up... So now I need a full tune-up (****ed up the rear brakes putting it back together)... I think the bike shop changed the hub instead of just the axle - which I'll be pissed about if its true. So now I need a full tune-up (I need a second set of hands to do most of it on my own and I'm lost when it comes to truing wheels anyway)...

I got so gayed today...

gayed is officially the worst thing I've ever read.

You passed up a decent frame for $25.

Actually, it passed you up for using "gayed" twice in one post.

I'm sorry that you despise gay people so much, but you didn't really miss out on anything. You might as well wait for a frame with better tubing anyway.
