Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Miche Advanced vs. Truvativ Omnium advice

So, my current setup is 39x16 on 170mm cranks. I had decided on the 165mm Omnium cranks, but the one thing I don't like is that it comes with a 48t chainring. The Miche Advanced comes with a 49t chainring, which would allow me to keep my 16t cog. I could purchase a 47t chainring for the Omniums, and that would put me approx. $20 more than the Miche Advanced set. All of these options would give me a significantly higher number of gear inches which made me think that I may need to purchase a larger cog, but I don't really want to do that. Trying to gather some opinions on these two sets. Is one clearly superior to the other? Thanks for the help.

There's NEVER a problem with having extra cogs and chainrings on hand, so don't sweat spending a couple bucks to have them around.

Dre, thanks for the response. eBikestop is where I've been shopping around, their prices are well below some of the other guys I've used. The cogs for my level hubs are a little pricey, so I was trying to aviod that route, but it may be inevitable. I found some FSA chainrings at eBikestop, that are cheaper than the Miche chainrings ($30something instead of $50something) and I think made from a better material (7075 T6 instead of 7075). So I can pony up the extra $35 for a chainring that better matches my cog although I may need to upgrade the cog so I don't have such a jump in gear inches. Hoping someone will chime in with Miche/Omnium crank experience.

Omniums are a nice stiff crank. Haven't ridden Miche but I hear they're slightly below Sugino 75.

Which bottom bracket on eBikestop matches the Omnium cranks? Do I have to choose a correct size? That part confuses me a bit. I'm using old shimano 600 cranks and bottom bracket, I need whatever would be the same as that setup.

Giga Pipe BB. Have a shop install it with their tool (they'll probably still end up charging you somewhere near there), or buy the tool and do it yourself. Just about every BB requires a special tool to install after all.

It's just a bummer because I bought a nice park bottom bracket/spanner tool to make adjustments on my current setup, but I just haven't been happy with it and I'm ready for this upgrade.

I was thinking about buying a set of Omniums until my mechanic showed me the (rather large) box of truvativ and bontrager cranks they have where the glue has failed at the arm/spindle interface...

Truvativ cranks that come on complete bikes can't even be compared to the Omnium Track set.

I've got Omniums. They are super stiff.

Search for the "Ominum vs Sugino 75" post and you'll come across a lot of good info. My shop put mine together for $10-$15... somewhere in there.
I could tell a huge difference and really liked the Truvativ right off the bat.

If the Truvativ is worthy to be compared to 75's (75's are better, honestly), but are also compared to the lesser Miche cranks, it sounds like Omniums would be better than Miche, and lesser than 75's.

I loved the hollow axle, the very nice (and inexpensive) bottom bracket, and the thickness. The bottom bracket sort of broke in after a few days and now it's so smooth and very stiff... can't imagine that they flex AT ALL. It's nice.

Search "My Dawes from bikes direct" for photos of the crank on my dawes.

*I got a "bad" non-drive side crank arm that was loose from the beginning. I complained a lot about it in my posts. MY LBS (Orange 20 in LA is a joke) was supposed to order the crank arm from SRAM. I'll bet my pinkie they haven't.

Thank you. I assume this will keep a 42mm chainline (as long as the rear spacing is 120mm) right? Sorry I'm a bit of a newb.

Some I've seen look like they'd come off with a locking tool. Not ideal, but kinda universal.
