Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Slim helmets...for big heads

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a dawes sst off of bikesdirect. good deal and very good bike for the money.

But when i started to shop around for a helmet, everyone one of them made my already big head look huggggggeeee. I know its never going to be that great with a helmet but anyone knows of a company or specific one that's pretty slim?

I was actually looking at old school climbing helmets, even a BMX full face helmet.

your help will be appreciated.

I have a Trek Interval XL, but I'm afraid I have the same problem. I'd be interested to know of the other options out there. For now, I'll just not look at my head while riding.

Yeah, my large (it comes in two sizes, universal, and large. *sigh*) Bell helmet makes me look like a bell-end, but what can you do? I'd rather be a dick than a vegetable.

I'm just going to chime in and add to the conversation. I wear a XL helmet and every single one I've put on that fit looked goofy as hell.. especially now that my hair is longer, I can't squeeze into a size M :( I've been looking for a non-dorky helmet for a while but it doesn't seem to be providing any positive results.. so I just wear my old bell helmet and suck up my pride.

..At least it looks better than my scooter helmet which is rated on the same scale as motorcycle helmets, so it's about twice as big as a bike helmet :D :D

i was able to find one good helmet that fit my big head. It was a Vigor helmet and it fit amazing. This was probably like 9 years ago atleast and i havent been able to find one since. Wish i still had that one.

What about a Specialized helmet? The S-Works is kind of expensive but it usually gives a pretty slim fit (at least the ones from a few years ago did).

If you want "action" pics: Cadel Evans' team uses that helmet.

^^ That looks like one of the Japanese sprint helmets. I haven't found one of those anywhere online, and heard you can only purchase them in Japan. I could of course be perfectly wrong if someone should know more?

The basic helmet that these covers go over seem to be pretty slim. Not too sure about the covers though.

i have a gigantic head and my large rudy project zuma seems to be pretty low profile. A lot smaller than my old specialized and it's way more comfortable.

i rode for almost a year without a helmet until i realized how dumb that was in new york city. i also know that no matter how you cut it, helmets aren't going to look cool, unless you're really into safety and think thats cool. i just found a helmet i thought looked good on its own and was comfortable and in my price range. i bought a giro monza when nashbar had a helmet sale awhile ago. i still have yet to really look at myself in a mirror with one, the closest i've seen to what it looks like on me is on car window reflections. after riding with it for about 2 days i forgot it was even there and now i feel awkward going anywhere without it, whether its a long ride or to the store a few blocks away. it will always look better than the insides of your skull on the pavement.

That Bern Watts looks cool, but too bad they didn't cut more holes in it. I prefer the death wish approach, that's just me though. Riding safe is cool, but my head heats up so darn much with any helmet that the amount of sweat I generate would make me never ride at all if I had to wear a helmet.

i'm a pretty sweaty guy, and it is almost beneficial when wearing a helmet. i grew up skating and wearing big pro tec helmets which were the worst, but bike helmets with proper ventilation are awesome. you get a little sweat going on your head and the vents channel air to your skull which cools you down more than when you're not wearing a helmet. thats what i've found anyway.
