Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Anybody mind if an "Ex-Clyde" hangs out?

I used to be 250#, now I'm down to 175#. Can I still play?

This is one of the most reasonable, respectful, and pleasant places on BF. I've been mostly lurking, occaisionally posting to encourage folks, but I think I'd like to hang out here more. Anybody mind?

I don't have a problem with it at all. You are good inspiration and would be able to give some help to others.

As long as you promise to goad everyone else on to losing that much tonnage!!!

There are quite a few of us ex-Clyde's, near Clyde's, little Clyde's or whatever else you want to call us here. I stay and hang out here for the very reasons that you listed. Everyone is respectful and encouraging to each other which is sadly lacking in many other parts of the forum. Also, I just find it more comfortable to hang out here with the "big guys" since most of my friends off the forum are Clyde's too. :)

Works for me. BTW if you are over 6' you qualify on height as well. Congrats on the weight loss and keep up the good work.

I was a Clyde once too. Granted, it only lasted a few months. I'm down to 177 this morning from a high of 205. Started loosing at the end of April. I hang out here too and try to comment when I can be helpful.

why do people in other forums of BF think they have to be jerks?

I did a wee edit, jkemp, so I wouldn't have to deal with it later if someone wandered in and then reported the post. There are a couple of reasons for the C&A attitude.

Anonymity: People will say things on the net that would never be said FTF. We avoid this so much because partially, we've been the butt of this attitude for most of our lives already and don't get a thrill out of it.
We've also got a huge sense of community here in Clydes/Athenas. We do a lot of self policing. It's like this because we like it this way. ;)
We also have gotten to know each other a lot better, partially because we're a microcosm of the boards as a whole, and have accepted that we all have different as well as similar goals, and have made a conscious decision to support each other in achieving these goals and receive support in turn. ;) In short, we've learned that it's enlightened self interest to not waste energy ripping each others guts out. ;)

Another ex-clyde here. Went from 220 last summer to 189 this morning!

This is by far the most congenial forum here. Love it.

I like it when I see "welcome to the herd". I kinda see it that way. WE all contribute to the herd and look after one another for the benefit of the herd. And if you poke one of the herd with a stick, you may find there are advantages to be a clyde.

I often post here even though there might be another section because I like it here.

You can honorarily borrow 25 of my pounds if it makes you feel better... I have a big cushion before I have to worry about getting below the 200 pound line.

I do think Clydesdale & Athena is more about an attitude than a number, so welcome.

Same with other forums too... (such as 50+ where I started hanging out a couple of years before I officially hit the age, and Commuting where I spend some time even though I don't actually commute yet).

If I were as tall as some of the women in my family I would be a Clyde. As it stands I'm more of a Welsh cob. ;) At 5' 4" and close to 180 lb., I definitely have some awkward moments in trying to be athletic, especially when it comes to trying to buy women's athletic clothing. :twitchy:

Once a Clyde, always a Clyde. ;) If I ever get below 200, although unlikely and not a goal - my goal is actually still in Clyde range - I would still be here.

I have to say the Clyde forum is the most respectful atht's for sure. Everyone is considerate, kind and I believe truly cares. Who wouldn't want to play here!!! :thumb:

Remember we women are never going to be Clydes - we are Athenas but what sucks is the weight limit is lower - I think 150. Not certain I will ever get below 150 so I am here to stay.
