Bicycle Mechanics - Brake Fit?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay, stupid question time I expect. I damaged the Cane Creek break on my '07 Trek Pilot and decided to replace the breaks with Shimano Ultegras. So far I've only hung the front break, but it seems the caliper arms are too short to match up correctly with the rim. Nowhere did I detect an option of ordering "long" or "short" etc. calipers. Do these (obviously) just not work on that bike? Or am I missing something? Is this common? Somehow I thought (probably stupidly) that these things were sorta "standardized."
Trek's web page for the Pilot 2.1 shows that it does indeed use a long reach brake caliper. I would return what you bought and get long reach brakes.

If you don't want to use the Cane Creek calipers again Tektro has a couple of nice long reach options. One is long and the other is LONG so pick the one that matches the old CC ones.
To maintain the match you'll probably want to stick with the CC single replacement though.
