Hello. I'm looking at getting a Shimano HG40 cassette. I did a bit of reading and Sheldon Brown's site says that Shimano cassettes with an 11 tooth cog being marketed as a hyperdrive cassette and as such require a "C" freehub body. I can't find any information about this cog set as needing a "C" body. Does this really require a c body (or a 1 mm spacer on a normal body) and as such is it just assumed that any Shimano cassette with an 11 tooth sprocket requires this? Or will it work on any normal freehub body?

What cassette do you have now? If it's an 8 speed cassette now, the HG-40 should fit fine without any spacers. No 8 speed cassettes that I know of need a spacer on a standard freehub body (Mavic being the only known exception).

Well, I don't have a freehub or cassette now. I have a freewheel and want to get away from it. I've already bent an axle and I've had another freehub start to come apart on me.

I'm looking at the Shimano FH-M530 for the hub and this cassette. I'm going to lace them into a rim I already have.
