Road Cycling - Another Knee Question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have pain on the front bottom of my right knee. Where should i start with adjustments? Cleats? Seat for/aft? Seat Height? i am searching through the forums also but am not finding that much yet.

outer
I can't help with that! I had pain in my inner aspect and it turned out to be a torne miniscus from twisting too hard shoveling snow. I would suggest getting medical advice before messing with the bike set up (unless it is a new bike and you are trying to get the fit tweeked). You have a miniscus on the outside of your knee too, so it may be that. Have you been doing a lot of big gear drills or hill workouts? Do you have pain in your quads too?
look under MY name and you will find a post that got an answer from a doc in Louesianna who is real helpful.
Good luck...Bill

Oh, I hate to ask this one, but are you Overtraining?? If you don't give yourself a chance to recover between hard workouts you can injur yourself!! Remember, you get stronger when you REST not when you ride!! I know, "I gotta ride man!!"
I got an open petella knee brace (about $12) and I use it when my knee acts up. It DOES help! You may want to try one.

Also i'm suffering from a pain in the inner side of the kneecup, in the left one. the pain start just from the first ride with my clipless pedals which is LOOK PP357 after half a day.
I was suffering from this pain in the past and was the solution for it wight training, i didn't know any reason for that pain, may be because i wasn't doing any kind training.
what shall i adjeast; advice plz.
:)
Did you do anything of a twisting nature? Snow shoveling or the such?
How long have you been off training?
Is this a totally new bike set up?? If so, it could be an adjustment to the new position and could be any number of things from fore/aft seat position to float.
How tightly do you have the springs set? Sometimes you can make it so you have to twist too hard just to unclip (at least with my SPD) which can cause pain after a few times.
The first thing I would look at is whether or not my knees were lined up differently from the way they were before. This would most likely be a cleat position issue and one that will take a lot of tweaking to get right. Do your LOOK pedals have a float adjustment?
The other thing that just occurred to me is - DID YOU JUST GET ON THE BIKE AND START RIDING WITHOUT WORKING INTO IT??? If you laid off for a while and just started at your previous level after a long break from riding it is almost a sure bet that you pushed yourself too hard and injured your knees!!! You may want to take 4-5 days off the bike entirely and gradually work back up with less intense efforts (don't push too big a gear, don't spin too fast a cadence and don't ride too long).
If this doesn't get better soon - SEE AN ORTHOPEDIST!! You may have injured yourself and may need to have it looked at. Aside from riding, you need your knees to WALK!! Trust an old man on this one - take care of your knees!!!

[actuly am training when i get space in my busy schedule, sometimes i do around 200 km/week some times 0km/week :p ]
Is this a totally new bike set up??
[Yes]
How tightly do you have the springs set?
[Yes, i get some diffculty when i try unclip]
Do your LOOK pedals have a float adjustment?
[With LOOK PP357, NO; but the i have the red cleat (i.e. it has some space so i can move my foot little bit to left and right.]

OK, I am not an expert, but My suggestions are as follows:
1 - Try to establish a training routine that doesn't have you doing a lot some times and nothing for more than a day or two. Your body acclamates to the effort and your progress acutally occurs during your recovery (as long as it isn't a long lay off)
2 - Loosen your clips if you can. Sounds like you may be having to twist too hard getting in and out of them.
3 - AND THIS IS REALLY THE IMPORTANT ONE!!! - Get a professional bike fit!! Hopefully the LBS where you got the bike can do this (and they shouldn't charge for it since you just gave them $$$$ for the bike and fitting it should be part of the initial purchase deal). There are som many subtle tweaks that may need to be done it is virtually impossible to get it right on your own (and you may cause yourself injurty - like your knee pain).
I hope this helps. Let me know how it works out.
Bill
Thankx bill.
i think the problem from clip, i have weakness in my knee as i mention before, and i'll try the others
thankx again
Later ;) dxb
thats is it!
thank God, the pain gone, when i loosen the clip to min. intention.

You might want to switch to a pedal system with more float, i.e. SPDs or Speedplay.
