V-Rex arrived from Kansas. Picked it up at the LBS late today. Yee-haw. Brief ride there in the parking lot with a flash of "Am I gonna fall over on this thing?" when I put my second foot on the pedal. Experienced that same moment the first ride on my Tailwind a couple of years ago and was very similar to first ride, with wife, on our tandem eight years ago. Piece of cake. Actually, feels different than a LWB but more similar than different. This is no high racer or low racer or Stratus/Tour Easy but I feel a definite potential for picking up my average speed. Very comfortable position with great visibility. A short ride tonite was great - the bike and I need more fine tuning and adjusting - but rides very nicely. :D

I'll have to google V-rex for pics. What's its turning radius? How do you like it?

Turning radius? Dunno. No problem turning around on a neighborhood street - as long as I am careful to avoid heel strike. No problem with turning around on a CLWB Tailwind, either, and no chance of heel strike with it. With more riding, the V-Rex will likely feel more maneuverable than the TW.
Goal for today: Put on SPD pedals. Came with plain caged pedals.

I've got a V-Rex, and I can do a U-turn while keeping the wheel track inside the width of a parking space. The boom sticks out a bit beyond that, but still... that's pretty tight even for a DF.

Any problems with heel strike? I understand that it becomes a non-issue once you figure out when and how it can happen.

Heel strike happens, but once you get used to the fact, it's not a problem, any more than toe strike is on a DF.

Hi, I've got a Rocket as well and they are great wee bikes. DF is short for Diamond Frame, ie a regular upright bike.

What are SPD pedals, anyway? Are you pleased with them?

SPD = Shimano Pedaling Dynamics system. "Mountain bike" style of clipless pedals. Originated by Shimano but available generically. I've had multiple SPD pedal sets from Nashbar and Perfomance and never had them on a mountain bike - but instead hybrids, tandem and recumbents. I like 'em.

Finally got a computer on my V-Rex and went for a ride today. Wow! Couldn't believe how fast I was going! Substantially faster than on my Tailwind. After a few fast miles I stopped and found that someone had told the computer that the front wheel was........substantially............larger........ than it really is.
