Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - SS Cruiser

Hi all,

I've been working on an old cruiser frame I have and I would like some input. I love cruiser frames. What I hate, is what they are intended for. Is there anything that can be done with a cruiser frame that would make it more agile and speedy so I wouldn't feel like I have to sit down all the time? I was thinking about putting on bullhorns instead of the typical cruiser handles, would this give me more leverage to stand up? The only fixed up cruisers I've found so far still just look like cruisers for the typical cruiser purpose so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think one issue you may run into is that cruisers were never meant to be agile and speedy, and therefore the frames may not ever be very light.

just buy a retrotec instead

Stick risers on it. Old motorbikes looked liked that. With risers you can get some pull on them.

My SS cruiser has an aluminum frame and speeds along quick nicely when the tires and pumped up to 45. On flat.

I agree although I really like the look of the segmented fork

I'm not a "cruiser" kinda guy... I've never liked the curved frames. But that... that is cool. :)

OK, Heres my SS cruiser (foot brakes) I have to get the rear hub rebuilt then she'll be ready for Cruzin' :ride:
YES! The horns work :D the front AND rear lights run off a generator ;) The wheelset are Super Heavy Duty :love:

that bike is certafiably awesome! it's much cooler with the period peices rather having them striped off so it could be smooth

I'm building a 1989 Schwinn Cruiser with 3-piece cranks (Poverty un-sealed), Haro Cruiser bars, and 700c Deep-V wheels with a coaster brake. I'll throw some road tires on at first, but will switch to CX tires later.

My brother and about 20 or so other crazy Santa Cruz, Ca. (I'm from Santa Cruz) MTB'ers do a rain downhill run on beach cruisers every winter. I'm kinda building it for that and errand running, I just don't want to ruin it now! My track bike is just too nice (add clipless pedals) to be running around like that, plus my flatland bike is pretty uncomfortable + expensive to be locking it up anywhere.

I'll post pics of my build when I'm done.
