I went today to pick up some new toe clips and some Toshi Double Straps. I had picked out some MKS toe clips at the LBS and the guy said that if I was using double straps, that i'd need some toe clips that supported them. Well i've called every damn bike store in town and no one seems to carry such a product. I then check out Soma's website and came across the Oppy XX Four-Gate Toe Clips. Well, according to their website, they're the only steel toeclips in production with 2 (well, 4) slots for double straps.
So, my question is, are these really necessary? Or could I just pick up some regular toe clips and rock the toshi double straps on them?
Thanks in advance.

Plenty of people run the MKS toe clips with double straps

Yeah, single-gate is fine. I'm running the MKS and toshi-double combo with no problems at all, in fact, I love it. Once you tighten down the straps they just naturally follow the path of least resistance on top of your foot.

Thanks for the fast replies guys! I'll just head back down there on my lunch break and pick up the MKS's.
:D
the 4x are awesome. not necessary, but they really distribute the strap and improve the overall stiffness of the "cage" which is useful when skipping/skidding extensively on longer rides (not sure if i explained that correctly).
i've ridden doubles with both, and while both are possible the 4x gates are way superior.
i'd definitely grab them if i were you.

really ?? i rode the quad gates and hated them. I didnt like the shape, and compared to my mks they didnt feel very stiff. But to each their own.
I run two straps on the mks no problem, but i would recommend some sort of doublizer. I made one out of an old leather cell phone case.
yes, most definitely! i like them so much i bought a pair for my girl and another for my rain bike.
there's only two sizes, though, so it could be that i was lucky. there definitely seems to be a love/hate thing with these; size is the only plausible explanation i can come up with for anything but universal love is shoe fit.

The only place to buy the 4-gate toe clips is Soma Fabrications. They're online.

for anyone who has the four-gates, is it better to go bigger or smaller? i'm right on the border of the maximum and minimum shoe sizes for the two sizes.

Dimension makes double strap clips too. I like these better than the Somas.
