Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As per Surly Blog

Xtracycle has improved their Freeloader bags so they now attach to your Big Dummy or Freerad frame more easily and securely. We've added new braze ons to the Big Dummy frame to accomodate. Good idea found here, and also at the top of Spew #19, creatively entitled Big Dummy, found on the right side of our blog page.

Older Big Dummy users can buy a retrofit kit from the looks of things.

Anyone know if the new Freeloaders are different than the previous version in any way other than how they attach to the bike at the bottom corners of the bags?

Is the material the same?

I spoke with Xtra about them when inquiring about a warranty frame. Sounds like with a new D-ring on the old bags, you should be able to use that function. They are also selling a retro fit kit for old frames and bags to make it work.

I like this update to the Xtra family

So the bags haven't changed other than the d-rings used to attach them at the bottom corners to the Xtra/BD frame. I can see how that would be a little more convenient, but I can't really see how this change makes them more secure then the old system.

no but it solves the problem of people not installing them correctly - which is quite rampant it seems.
