... and I admit to being a bit baffled but when I started this whole thing up again 2 years ago (well, OK, a little more than 2 years ago) I was 225lbs with a size 40 -pushing a size 42- waist.

Then I dropped about 35-40 lbs and got down to 185. Yeah! 180 was in sight and maybe, maybe 175.

Then as I began to push harder and climb more and ride farther, my weight began to creep.
Now I'm up to 195 but I'm wearing a size 38 -pushing a size 36- waist.
Is it possible that I've put on 10 lbs of muscle ???
Seems unlikely. What's going on?

"It sounds like muscle, but do pay attention to those waistbands," said the man whose pants, unlike yours, are getting just a wee bit tight.

Since I don't have time for more riding, I think maybe there should be less eating.

Yep. Met a woman who started teaching an aerobics class three times a week to lose weight.
She Gained 36 Lbs of Muscle.

What are you doing? Putting on weight for no reason.

Think your problem is not enough PIE on the rides. Eat more PIE and you will have to do more miles to work it off just to retain the same weight. Then you will realise how the extra miles are working so it will be 50 miles before breakfast to work more weight off.

Don't worry about it- Your wife isn't.

My wife? Oh, goodness no, she's an unindicted co-conspirator
Seriously, though, I was glad to drop the lbs for a couple of reasons:
1) Lighter climbs easier and
b) it would be good for my BP.

But, if I am giving up fat for muscle, I can live with that.
PIE. PIE. PIE. Yes, I must remind myself for I often forget this little reward.
Mrs S equally as often does a good job of covering that end of things, though.

I just re-batteried my heart rate monitor, as I hadn't used it for a couple of years. I'm adding my personal stats so it will give me my target zones, etc. I click through the settings. The last one -- my body-mass index, just says "overweight". While I agree (I'm 6'1" - 193), it was discouraging to have it displayed on my handlebars. :notamused:
