Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - How can I get my dad to convert?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. My dad has an old, but really well kept '78 Schwinn Le Tour and I really want him to convert it to fixed gear, but he "likes having gears too much". What is something I can tell him to want to convert?

Get him to ride some else's fixed gear.
And don't convert that Le Tour if it's well kept and he's still riding it. Just get an old, already stripped frame from a co-op if you want to do a cheap conversion.
convert to fixed or SS? if its fixed, you might want to start by just getting him on a fixed gear bike. If the bike is in super-fine condition, I wouldn't touch it for conversion unless it was really low end in the day...

money isn't really an issue. and believe me when i say this, that bike would look very very nice as a fixed gear.

Tell him it's a great way to spend a lot of money on an already perfectly functional bike that he enjoys very much as it is. Or tell him that he'll start having to worry about foot retention, and laces and pant-legs getting caught in the drive-train. Oh, and don't forget to mention that it will make getting from A to B a lot more difficult.
Oh wai-
do it when he's not looking.

Please don't tell me you're trying to do a brakeless track bike wannabe conversion with naked road drops and filed off braze-ons...

i tried to get my dad to go ss when i rebuilt his raleigh record. I knew he wouldnt go fixed, but ss i figured he could at least coast. its a work in progress, but i am just going to try to get him hooked on my fixie, then try ss later- its easy to convert to ss after the fact. or go ahead and build up a cheap ss frame for him and worry bout him riding it later

If money is no issue, then why don't you buy a used bike off craigslist and build that up as a fixed gear/ss and give it to him rather than ruin the bike that your dad loves?

Tell us more about your dad. To be honest, I don't really know what motivates him.

Why is you want him to convert? He has a bike that he enjoys. Why the hell should he ruin his current ride?

Stop being selfish. Get your own bike.

Let your dad ride it how ever he wants. Last I checked you said it was his bike.
Go worry about how hip your bike looks.
