BMX - Trek Sub Vert 1.0g- Decent bike?

I am 240#'s. My son just upgraded to a 20" bike. I would like to ride a bit with him. (I am no BMX'er. Just bunny hops and tiny jumps.)

Does this seem to be a somewhat decent price on this bike? ($75)

I dont really want a Walmart bike as the assembly sucks and i am afraid that the bike would break under my weight.

No. I have seen bikes like that for cheaper.
I would reccomend this bike since it's the cheapest i could find and strong.

I really dont want to spend more than $80. I might even spend $100. Mainly just riding up and down the street like when i was a teen. I still have my bike from then but it needs rebuilt (brakes, tubes and tires). The bike shop said it wasnt worth it.

Am i just dreaming? I thought this might be decent as it is a Trek.

yea thats it. its just a steel-alloy. and its stronger than aluminum or hi-ten steel.

and if you look at the specs of a bike, it will usually say chromo frame and fork. just remember, the more chromo, the better. and full chromo is the best.

I had planned on putting new brakes and tires/tubes on my old bike until the guy at the bike shop told me it was a $60 department store bike. Besides taking it off of 48" ramps, i never did much more with it. I mean i never raced or did freestyle. Just tiny little ramps pretending i was cool.

I abused the bike and never had a problem. I had hoped it was at least somewhat decent to make it worth the cost of making it usable. My thinking is that these bikes at walmart wouldnt even take everyday riding. I dont want to spend money on a bike that is crap. I mean according to the guy at the store my bike was crap, but it lasted. Brakes and tires didnt though... I just have a feeling that walmarts bikes are even more crappy than 20 years ago...

I just want to ride with my boy. It wouldnt even be off the pavement. I have a mountain bike but i cant bunny hop that beast. I feel my age when i ride it.

Its hard for me to justify spending the cash when i am probably going to ride less than 100 miles total. I don't think i would go off of a jump of more than 12". I am so much heavier than i was before and i don't want to embarrass myself. I am not quite as brave as i once was.

It is hard for me to tell good from bad. I have read that it is better to buy used than to buy the department store stuff when on a budget.

I can fork down the cash for a decent bike, i would rather just buy another gun though. I would use it more than the bike. I stopped at the local bike shop hoping for a used 20". Cha, nothing appeared used there! They did have a few 20" and of course seeing as how i am the prime age the DK General Lee caught my eye. $219 i think.

I was noticing the first bike suggested above. The DK eight pack. I am guessing the 8 pack is heavier duty than the 4 pack?

if all you're gonna be doing is riding down the street, then maybe you should just go with the general lee. that would suit your purposes pretty well.

It doesn't come with the horn though.

I liked the idea of giving it to my boy later, but i doubt it would be good for him. He is very afraid of everything. I tried to have him go off of a 5" high long ramp and he thought i was nuts.

The General Lee is not full CroMo. The one I mentioned is probably one of the best values in a versatile bike. Your son is probably just a little timid now which is a good thing. Fear is a safety net and it is better to have it and develop courage. Kids that don't have a grasp of real danger are the ones that wind up hurt. The Wrap should be sturdy enough for you and you son when he's ready. Also a quality bike will be more reliable than used, ride nicer and you'll find yourself riding more than you thought. Sealed bearings, 3 piece cranks, full chromo or at least mostly chromo

Can i tell if a bike has any chromo by just looking at it?

It should say somewhere on the bike, like the seattube if it's full chromo. Not sure though, just ask.

It would probably cost me about $10 in gas too. Its about 40 miles away. I was thinking the price of $275 seemed a bit too much for new. Of course you have to figure tax at local shops...

Someone near me has a "new" DK eight pack, Maybe i will check it out... for $200 If it's an 08 it should of come with a 48 spoke rear wheel that will be good for your stature and should work for you, unless you're over 5'9". Technically a 20.75" top tube frame would be right for you then. Once again if you can stretch another buck thirty the Stolen Wrap is full CroMo and will be stronger.

I looked at a bike today and picked it up. I paid $125 as the guy wouldn't budge after his son told him how much was put into the bike previously. I do know this. (Prepare for your disappointment...) No sealed bearings and a one piece crank.

Here is how it is. I would have paid $90-$160 for a walmart bike. This bikes seems really solid. I don't like these pegs and the wheelbase seems too small for me. Something was mentioned about height. I am 6' 0". Maybe this bike is too small. Whatever it is, i am pleased. I would rather have this than the walmart bike. I paid $86 for my kids and it is a poc. He is so happy though. Now, that is all that matters.

The label says Hoffman Flatland EP, "Special Length" 33"-34.5". Does that mean it is especially short?

After comparing the bike to my old bike, the wheelbase seems the same. It is amazing how stout this bike is built! I can see so many difference between it and my old one. Even more compared to this walmart bike! In fact, my sons walmart bike was rode once and the brakes are not properly adjusted so i am seriously contemplating just returning it and giving him this white one. I wouldnt feel so nervous riding this. The walmart one made me really nervous.
