Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Riser Bars?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been riding with pursuit and drop bars for a while now, but I've seen lots of kids riding around with riser bars. I've given it some thought and I kind of want to pick up a set.
Can anyone recommend a decent brand of riser bars? On the cheap would be nice too, but my budget range is between $0-$45
Also, I have a Bianchi Pista 08, but I'm unsure of what diameter bars my stock stem will accept. Any info would be greatly appreciated. <3
Thanks kindly,
Kelly

Your current bars should be oversized or 31.8mm. Any bike store in san francisco will have something you need. I recommend Box Dog Bikes but Performance carries Easton bars, those are great, but anything will work!

if you do indeed have 31.8, then get some ritchey mtb risers on the cheap

Thanks a bunch! Box Dog's a nice shop, I'll swing by there after work.

I'm almost positive the Pista doesn't have oversized bars. I ordered these recently:

Haven't gotten them yet, but they were cheap.

Don't forget to chop them down. :)

There is no way the pista comes with 31.8 bars.

Nitto have some nice (read: light, but pricey $40 and up) risers, but just go to your LBS for generic $15 bars:

Your stock stem has a 26.0 mm bar clamp diameter and you will need shims to accept 25.4 mm riser bars. Nitto also sell a shim kit for about $9-10, though you can always just go the beer can route:

You're probably going to want Oury mountain grips to complete the look:

Last, but not least, don't forget your Deep V's:

if you don't find what you want at box dog check pedal revolution on 21st(?) and south van ness. I think they have the NITTO B259AA riser bars in stock. They may be a little more than you want to spend but they seem like they could be nice. Also American Cyclery has a ton of handle bars in stock. Last time I was there they were a little low on stock, but still more than most stores. Still though, the people at box dog are really nice. You might want to stick with them just for that fact.

Nitto risers flex like hell.
**** those.
I picked up my risers @ a my local bike co-op for $10.
Check with LBS's. Ask if they have used parts you can rummage through.

I thought the whole point of risers was that you just sit your ass in the saddle and never stand over your bars.

No, that isnt the point of risers.
And i mean they REALLY flex. You can sit in the saddle and pull on your grips and easily feel and see them flex.

You just need to cut them narrower.

Also OS, so they won't fit a stock Pista stem.
But screw it, buy them anyways. It's really important to have a bunch of crap that looks good, rather than having a bunch of crap that functions well.
