New Postal duds for '04 (www.lancearmstrong.com/lance/online2.nsf/html/lance04kit)

Note OLN as a sponsor. Probably due to the documentary that they are doing on prep for the historic sixth win...

So, If OLN is a sponsor of USPS how can we expect
to get any unbiased reporting? Sure Phil and Paul
will be unbiased as they've always been, but
Bobbke and Christin Gums are gonna be unbearable.

marty... i really like phil and paul, but their reporting of the usps team has never been unbiased. don't forget, these are the guys who continually tout george "also-ran" hincapie as a great classics rider.

Oln or regular tv. Easy to choose from that list.

Exactly.

They get more excited over Hincapie than they do their own countrymen. e.g. Miller.

I don't mind a little bias in the reporting. Lord knows we see enough French bias in the Tour picutres. The heck with the sprint...let's watch Laurent Brochard hang out at the back of the pack...

Because while Phil and Paul do "pre" stuff unique to OLN (which by the way is not always live, but done ahead, thus how they get their logo'd shirts on), they are sending a feed to many sources other than OLN. For example, if you have the '03 DVD of the TdF, you will clearly note that the "feed" used is for ITV (their logos on the microphones and in the booth), not OLN. Thus, on the DVD we get a daily "David Millar update".

On OLN when Beloki crashed, Phil was talking...on the DVD it's Paul and you can hear Phil in the background speaking to the other feed...

Funny, because they are doing a world feed...

you didn't think they were "employees" of OLN, did you??

Hmm.....

AMD on there. I wonder if INTEL will have to get started in sponsoring bike teams. I don't recall seeing any semiconductor companies sponsor before. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Didn't Siemens used to (maybe still does, I'm not sure) sponsor a team with Cannondale. Still pretty cool that AMD is sponsoring a team despite posting a $274 million net loss last year. Intel on the other hand is sitting pretty with a $5.6 billion profit and doesn’t sponsor:(

edit: just found it, Siemens sponsors a mountain bike team.

I think that red and white stripe along the sleeve and the world championship colors clash.

Quick Trivia, who else on USPS has earned the right to wear the WC stripes on their sleeves and collar?

ekimov, TT champion right?

The best finish Heras ever had in a World Championship event was 52nd I think.

So So So close........Ekimov won the TT in the Olympics, not in the world championships.

He's won stages in the Tours of France, Spain, Switzerland, Holland, China, The Tour du Pont(overall), the Paris-Nice, 2 stages in the Dauphine, and Finished as high as 18th Overall in the Tour de France.

Non of this got him the stripes though, those are for winning 4! world championship in the pursuit. He is also a 10 time world record holder in the Kilometer.

Eki won the world pursuit championship in 1990

UCI individual pursuit champions (www.uci.ch/english/palmares/track_wchamp_Mip.htm)

Bio on Eki with photo in his World Championship stripes (www.usps-berryfloor.com/staff.aspx?lang=en&co=us&ID=2) You will see a portrait and in a couple of seconds it switches to a riding shot.

BTW, Eki won the Tour de Pont in 1994, as well. Riding for a team sponsored by Word Perfect.

As I recall, '96 was the last duPont year...Lauritzen (7up), Alcala (PDM), Breukink (PDM), LeMond (Z), Alcala (WordPerfect), Eki (WordPerfect) and Lance won the last two in '95 and '96 for Motorola were the winners from 1989 to 1996.

Now, my question is who has won the world pursuit title four times? Because according to the UCI listing of world champions, I don't see one for recent times with riders that would be active or recently retired.

So...I have no idea what you are asking.

That's the cost of 15,000 miles a year pedalling, TDF's, kids, cancer and divorce.
He looks pretty good for that, I guess.

Mateo,

Sure Phil and Paul will be unbiased as they've always been was meant to be a bit tongue in
cheek.
I agree on their over the top reporting about Georgie,
the way they tout him you'd think he was the second
coming of Roger De Vlaeminck.

He got it half right, it is Ekimov, but not for the Worlds time trial.

He won the world pursuit as a pro in 1990, but he also won in 1986, 1988 and 1989 as an amateur.

Help me out here... was Motorola always an associate sponsor with WordPerfect, or did that come along in the second year? Or were they ever?

Yeah, I thought he looked a lot older on Luz Ardiden last year.
His face seemed so much younger in 1999.
