We had planned on following the “Roasters Saturday Ride”. Apparently there were two big races happening today, San Raphael and Patterson race, so all the racers were prepping or racing. Not a lot of riders at the bridge. I met Henry (Blast Radius) and Mateo (Pelikan) and we didn’t wait around too long.

It was quite foggy and some drizzle across the bridge. It was a bit hazardous until we made it across the bridge. From Sausalito on, the Sun was shining for the rest of the ride. I kind of kept slowing down the ride with having to stop for work emergencies that I was managing over the phone.
I asked to stop at Mikes Bikes so I could talk with some of my friends training for the “Seismic Challenge”. I was slowing down the groove. We flew up to Fairfax and on the way we were talking and I was blown away that Henry had never climbed Mt. Tam and Mateo had never climbed from Fairfax. I decided to change the ride and do Mt. Tam! Obviously!
The climb up to Alpine was pretty funny. Those two were doing the baby whine at me for making them climb. They were rewarded with a fantastic descent to Alpine dam. We hung out for a couple of minutes, then a couple of Bianchi riders shot by us, so Mateo issued a challenge for Henry to “catch them”. Henry accepted and took off. We screamed up the backside of Tam. I helped Henry chase them down and right at the end I popped into the big chain ring and got past them...Ouch! That put the hurt on me!

It was pretty neat to ride over the seven sisters with Henry for his first time.

One of those experiences I’ll never forget and I’m lucky to have shared it. We slammed it down the front of Tam and Henry and I worked in our usual Kamikaze style. I cannot drop Henry on a descent. I told him it’s like trying to shake off an angry hornet at a picnic!
We stopped at Café Trieste and coffee’d up for the ride across the bridge and back into the wind and fog. The bridge was a mess of horrible Blazing Saddles bikes! White knuckle all the way.
Well, I’m resting up for tomorrows ride back to Alpine dam with the one and only Lorri Lee and the fabulous “Velo Gals”… they’ll kick my butt… I hope : )
