Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello, I've recently taken an interest in Cyclocross and was thinking I could convert a road bike I have (Aquila MackAtak 650 Pro), and was wondering the step i would need to take, a new crankset would be one though, but i was wondering what else?

Isn't that a triathlon bike? If so, you're going to be hard pressed to fit CX tires in there. I'd just sell the Aquila and use the funds to buy a new bike.

Alright, thanks for the opinion, I may just be stubborn and try and fit the wheel on anyways (Yes, it is a tri bike, a lower end one, so it was worth a shot)

Is a tri-bike going to take the abuses of cyclocross?

Kind of like trying to cut off your nose to spite your face. Good luck

this is a great thread. i have an old beach cruiser i want to convert to a cyclocross bike so i can ride on dirt paths and bumpy roads. will it be fast? will i need a new seat, or can i just take the kickstand off? how many gears can i run with a springer fork? if it won't work, i can use a carbon road fork. the frame's headtube is 1", but the fork is 1 1/8". i'm thinking i can get it to fit though. maybe file it down? right on!
