Can someone explain to me the difference between aerobic and anaerobic?

Simple- aerobic means "oxygen present". Anaerobic means "oxygen not present". What is the real question you're looking at?

In relation to exercise, aerobic work is being fueled by the oxygen in your bloodstreem and so is sustainable for long periods of time.

Anaerobic is sustained by fuels in your muscles (without the oxygen) and is only sustainable for short periods of time.

Classic examples are: jogging on the treadmill for a half hour is aerobic, going over and working on the weight machines is anaerobic.

For cycling you're generally doing aerobic exercise. Exceptions would be sprints or heavy climbs.

...which is slightly misleading. You're always using both systems, but it's a matter of degree. If you're mostly using the aerobic system it tends to be called "aerobic exercise" and vise versa.
