Hi all,
I am planning to get a new wheelset for my SX bike. So far the plan is to get a pair of Mavic XM321 (F219) rims with DT DB spokes (2. 1.8 2) and hope XC hubs front and rear. However everytime i am looking at my front Specialized Stout hub i cannot stop thinking of how good it looks. Machined with lazer etched graphics, nothing to compare with the crappy looking Shimano M475 rear...
I am wondering of the quality of the specialized hub though, is it worth keeping it or should i upgrade the front one to Hope as well? BTW i am talking about disc hubs/wheels.
Thanks
Yannis

You are worried too much about how things look. ;)
I have a Hope/F219 disc wheelset. As far as I'm concerned it's nearly unbreakable. Plus you can completely rebuild the hubs and they have a very good parts breakdown drawing on the net.
the specialized stout hub (s-works) is a hugi 240. it's stiff and i'd hold on to it unless i have to make a switch.

Mine is the simple one found on 2003 Rockhopper Disc, so i doubt that its a hugi one..

All the Hope hubs are good, but then there are other manufacturers about that make good hubs too. I have a Hope Lighweight front hub that must be 6 years old. So far it is the only hub that has been re-rimmed, as I want to keep this hub. Original bearings and now up for its 3rd rim. Can't say that about my XT hubs, but then it is cheaper to buy a new wheel with an XT hub from a custom builder than to re-rim XT's. I don't go for looks, its mainly quality and suitability I go for, But Hope Hubs are worth having. Both on looks and quality.
