Has anyone camped at the Hotter N Hell?

Long story short... we won't be getting there until Friday ~3PM. Will we have difficulty finding a place to pitch our tent at the MPEC? Is there a better option?

I'd like to have electricity (CPAP for sleep apnea). I can use a car battery, but it's a pain the rear. Paying for a hotel for two nights when we can only stay one night doesn't seem worth it either.

Do any motels in Jacksboro or Bowie also fill up? They're about an hour away and would work pretty good if you could get them.

I just today (8/12/08) called the number on the site for host home accomodations (http://www.hh100.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=51) and Marie Libby give me 2 names and phone numbers. I called one of them and will be staying with him, food is on my own but I will have a bed to sleep on and AIR CONDITIONING! I would highly recommend you try that route unless you really want to sleep on the ground in the heat.

As far as costs with host homes it is on a per host choice. The person that I am staying with asked me to make a donation to the food bank in lieu of paying him any "rent" for staying there. Some hosts even will cook for you, it is all just see what happens.

Good Luck

I may check this out if I go at the last minute. It will be a game time decision for me. Thanks for posting.

I called the MPEC... the indoor camping doesn't exist anymore, but the outdoor is virtuallly unlimited.

I dug out my tent, which is well ventilated and going to buy a DC fan this weekend. It may be hot, but we'll be close to the start/finish area and it should be a fun time getting to know everyone camping in the area.

Thanks for the info everyone.

That's odd. They have indoor camping advertised on the HNH100 website. It's first come 1st serve, free, and they have showers and bathrooms.

When I mentioned that to the guy he said he was going to remove it. The showers are still usable, but all camping is outdoor... unless it rains and then the city changes their mind :twitchy:
