Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - What's a decent visibility light?

Hi all. I was browsing Dealextreme.com for LED flashlights. I'm looking for an inexpensive 'visibility' light (flash mode, wide beam) for the front of my bike. A flashlight with Twofish lockblock would be cool. No headlights needed yet - there's still lots of daylight when I'm out riding. However, this summer has been nuts for rain and the bikes I see with front white blinkies are much easier to see in the downpours! Down the road I'll probably commit to an overvoltaged halogen system but I'm taking baby steps here.

So, in light of dealextreme's dizzying array of very similar lights, is there one that stands out? Or is there a more bike-specific light I should look at? Example, the Planet Bike Spot.

The current standard here is probably the Fenix L2D Premium Q5 (https://www.fenix-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_65&products_id=362) light, but at just under $60 if you use their discount code, that seems to be over your budget. You might look through a recent thread on this subfourm HERE (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=446019) for a lower cost but less bright alternative, DealExtreme's Ultrafire C3 Cree.

Are you also considering a tail light? If so, the Planet Bike Superflash is the popular low-cost light.

I'm sure others will provide additional alternatives.

PS: For visibility in rain, I'm sure brighter is better. Also consider mounting the light on your helmet. This lets you point it directly at motorists when required to arouse them from cell-phone-induced stupor.

From my perspective, the downside to mounting on your helmet is that if you look down at your data displays (assuming you ride with such gear), you lose the forward viz from your helmet mounted flashlight. In that case, better to have one on the handlebars and one on the helmet.
