Texas - Bike co-op in Dallas?

Anyone know of a co-op in or around DFW? Similar to Yellow Bike in Austin? I just moved from that area, and while I understand Dallas is much less..well.. Austin-like, I thought there might be something around here. Thanks you guys!

I think there was an effort to start a Yellow Bike like deal in Denton. It was on the Yellow Bike site a while back, so you might check there.

I really do wish we had a co-op or a Yellow bike. It would be a cool way to pass some time, meet some people, and learn some things.

There is a group looking at starting one, they are just getting started, but I know they have applied for a couple of grants. They plan to start in the SMU area. Sorry no more info yet.

I'm living in Denton now, so it's too bad they didn't get one up and running here. I couldn't find anything about it on the yellow bike site, but I did find a list of all similar organization in Texas and none were listed in the Dallas area. A couple in Houston and one in Waco though.

Well, the one I was familiar with, was basically just a shop that a bunch of people into bikes started for the community. They take in old/tossed out bikes and rebuild them to sell. They have a full stock of bike tools/stands/misc. parts, etc. and you can either pay for time to use their materials or volunteer hours to earn credit time. They sell bikes for really cheap, or rent bikes for a semester for students to use, offer help on maintenance and repair, and organize events. Basically just looking to get more people on a good bike and help out those that already are- very noble goals.

That sounds like a good thing to do. I wouldn't mind hanging around a place like that to help fix up a bike and learn a few things myself. I grew up fixing flat tires! I've even got an old bike to contribute.

Do you have a contact for this group? A small group of us are trying to start something similar but are just at the very beginning of the quest.

It would be great to speak with these folks and share ideas and help avoid duplicating efforts, even if it was within target locations/areas.
