Oh, to be a genetic freak and have the engine he has.

I read a few days ago that he predicted a top 5 finish for himself. I guess he more than achieved his goal.

He beat the old record by 11 minutes. Unfortunately for him, the record-holder beat his old record by 13 minutes.

What a great guy. I'd like to see that section they rode but the guy who won normally walks.

I heard that he is competing at the Olympics in 8 different sports!

You'd still need the will to win as well.

Goodness gracious - thanks for posting, I didn't know that this had happened
So many truly inspirational things happening just at the moment
My view - the man's a physical marvel, a decent person, and a force for good. Fine. I've said it. And I'm a European, and one of many with the same opinion.

I think Wiens broke his previous records because he had Lance right there on his tail the entire time pushing him. Here's the race. http://www.superhumanmag.com/content/view/763/92/

(And I say that although he didn't stop to chat when I was clapping for him as he climbed into the Yellow Jersey at the Plateau de Beille in July 2004. I can accept that he might have been busy at the time)

According to Wiens, he broke the record because he had Lance WORKING WITH him. He hasn't had the benefit of an athlete capable of matching him and taking pulls with him for so long before. Lance turned out to be his "domestique". He even rode a section he would have normally walked, because of Lance.

Question is, did they drug test them when it was over?

I was wondering about drug testing too. Is it only for International events? I know nothing about cycling competitions I race horses;)

Have any luck? Are you able to run faster than the horses?

When I was a kid (long long time ago) I used to bet the boys on their motorcycles that I could beat them in a short race with my pony. Ponies are much faster from a standstill than most boys on motorbikes;)

Landis will be back in Jan. 2009. Things should get interesting.

I thought it was kinda funny when Lance said he would probably do Leadville again in '09, but only if he was, don't remember the exact quote, but basically, "in better shape"! After coming in under the previous record on his first try.

If Lance and Dave Wiens have to walk their bikes up a hill, I probably couldn't climb it WITHOUT a bike!

I hope not.

He hurt the sport.

Don't forget his "Father-in-Law"!!!

Bumping to report that Lance raced the Austin Tuesday Nighter this week. In the A race, there was a 4-man break with Lance and our local 2008 40-44 nat'l road champ. Eventual winner attacked and he and Lance worked to the finish. Sounds like Lance sat up for 2nd.

I haven't been able to get out there since the kiddos went back to school, so I didn't race it.

Seems strange that Lance would start hitting the TN'r again if he wasn't looking to race again.

Hey WR...where are those held...at The Driveway? If so, then I think one of the owners of The Driveway has a good relationship with Lance. Maybe talked him into coming out. If not the Driveway, then maybe he's tuning up for next year's season!

My guess is Lance just likes to ride his bike. He picked out a local fairly competitive race so he could extend himself somewhat. He has nothing to prove and etiquette led him to sit up.

I'm not remotely fast enough for it to matter, but I can imagine for those who are the sinking feeling they would get as Lance rolls up the the starting area before the ride.

Nope, it's a hack race out in the southeast. No officials, no closure, fees, etc...

I heard that Lance was going to be the center for the Colts until the injured Jeff Saturday comes back - so that Peyton can be sure of getting good snaps. What a multi-talented guy!

Lance's performance on tonight's Stand Up To Cancer broadcast was more impressive than his cycling exploits imho.
