Very solid price for that bike.

Well, that fork is probably a '98 or '99 vintage, so the age of the rest of the bike may be about the same.

Nice bike otherwise. I'd still offer @ $500 and try to settle on $650.

looks like a good bike...fork might be a little old, but try and settle for $650-7 and use the extra cash to go towards a new fork

Sounds pricey, but the main thing is, does your sister like it and does it fit her?
Be a sod if you get it for a better price than offerred then Have to spend more on new stem, bars and saddle to get her to feel comfortable on it

I am with A2 except $500 is the max you should pay. The bike is four years old and has been ridden so its value has dropped. I know the owner paid alot more than that but bikes depreciate like cars, the second they go out the door the value is cut in half.

If it fits, offer $500, I wouldn't pay much more than that.

Parts on it look slightly newer, that XTR rear mech doesn't look old vintage...I'd pay 700 for it.

It depends on how experianced your sis is. Will this be her first "real" mtb (not walmart special) or does she have one you are replacing?

As others have stated, it seems like a good buy (if it fits) if you can get the price down. If it is her first bike it is definitly a decent rig. You might have to replace the fork or at a minimum rebuild it. You may also end up spending an few extra bucks to rebuild/replace some of the components.

Yea at 850, you can get a 2001 or 2000 homegrown with the same kind of parts, which is a bit nicer.
