Not as good as kryptonite?

Anybody have a bike stolen with one?

Why's that? Just wondering why you feel that way.

because of the bic pen fiasco?

Oh, so kryptonites are vulnerable to that?
I had read that the bulldog wasn't.

I feel safe with the locking mechanism on the OnGuard and the fact that they'll send you free replacement keys whenever you need them.

Kryptonite may have fixed their "bic pen fiasco," but I would never trust a company that let that get out into stores. That's just me though.

The only negative thing I have found with my OnGuard is having a little looseness between the U and the Lock, so it rattles if I shake it hard, but it doesn't affect the lock at all, it's just annoying. My friend has the same lock and doesn't have that problem though.

The bulldog isn't. And you can't drill out the lock either.

I recommend getting the Mini Bulldog packaged with the cable so you can lock your wheels to your bike at the same time. It's only like $5 more at most places. Good luck.

Yeah, that's probably not a bad idea.

get the pitbull mini

I ordered the mini from my lbs in January, I believe, and it was unavailable so the shop upgraded me to the mini pitbull for the same $$. So far, so good! It's a little heavy though, in comparison to the bulldog. It may be overkill for my town too.

I like my onguard u-lock. I broke that stupid plastic around the base of the lock off. It is way less bulky now.

The mount for your frame you mean?

peabodypride

Nah, there is a little plastic sleeve on both the krypto and onguard. I took mine off too. Also I am considering removing the rubber around the "U" channel to get a bit more space.

Oh the yellow plastic.

The pitbull mini is ever so slightly larger than the krypto evo mini. I think its a good lock.

The attachment thing on the U part of the lock on the pitbull mini is plastic and seems cheaper quality than the krypto evo mini, where it is metal.

Also, I like the fact that the pitbull mini is a double deadbolt system and since it's so small, I find it easier to get the lock on when things are tight.

Yeah I don't like the rubber for the frame mount.
I'm not putting that mount on my bike anyways....

Whats the best way to break it off?

We might be thinking of different parts.. but on mine there was a metal part in which you slid into the bike-mounted holder. It just slid right off, but it was metal.

So you broke the plastic off this lock? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41EE2009GML._SL500_AA280_.jpg

Do you have pictures of what it looks like with all the crap broken off? I'll admit it's a little bulkier than I expected, but I am a fan of the twistable hole cover that's pretty nifty.

I did the same.
The plastic around the lock part comes off pretty easy. I used a screwdriver and pried it. I then wrapped it with electrical tape.

I've been using the Onguard for about a year now with no problems other than the aforemantioned losseness between the U and the lock. As far as the Bic pen trick, any kryptonite lock made within the last 18 months cannot be broken into like that so don't worry. If your kryptonite lock is older than 18 months, send it to them and and they'll replace it for free.

Its not really that... if they didn't test their product in that case who is to say they won't let something else just as horrible slip in the future? Why take the chance?

At any rate, I got this model:

http://www.rei.com/product/751293 (http://www.amazon.com/OnGuard-Bulldog-5015TC-Bicycle-Security/dp/B000FL3E9I)

It has two yellow rubber guards on the sides.

Not sure if this is a joke question but without the extra plastic around the base my mini DT fits in the rear belt loop of my shorts/jeans and fits into the back pocked on one of the pairs of my jeans.

I wear dickies work pants most of the time and the Pitbull mini fits in my back pocket. Haven't tried the belt loop yet.

I throw the bar in my hipbag and throw the u through my belt loop.

Just got the bulldog mini and there's this little metal pin hole that goes through the rubber on the cross bar, on the opposite side of the brand name. Anybody know what it is? Does it drain water? Allow oil to be put into the top of the lock mechanism? Never seen something like that before on a ulock.

does removing the rubber on the kryptonite give you that much more space??
