I am looking for a used Sun EZ-Sport CX recumbent. Can anyone give me an idea of what I should be paying for a bike of this model? I am looking for a model that is 1-4 years old and is in excellent condition.

I have found a few, but prices seem to be all over the place.

Thanks you for any help.

The last EZ Sport I saw on Craigs List was a two year old AX, supposedly with very low miles. The listing started out at $850, and it finally sold when the listing dropped to $650.00. So, about half of retail for a relatively new bike. bk

FWIW: My brother just spent $500 on a new EZ-1.

There is one listed on Craigs list in St. Cloud MN for $690... I wouldn't spend more than $600 on a used CX.

My general rule for used bikes is about 50% of new retail. Some folks try to sell a used bike for only a few bucks off because they never rode it much but you don't get a warranty with a used bike and you never know for sure what its been through.

Well, thanks for all of the help and suggestions. After finding a nearly new Sun EZ-Sport CX about two weeks ago for a fair price and "mostly" enjoying a ride of about 10 miles a day, I have decided to sell it. There are too many people around here that do not like bikes on the road, especially one that is different from a standard bike.

In the two weeks I have ridden it, I have had three cars not mover over on a shoulder less road, two while laying on the horn. I am riding on the edge of the road. I have also had several teenagers yell and throw things out their windows.

This was supposed to be a relaxing experience in my mind. It is not worth the stress as I get super PO'd when this stuff happens.

Anyway, it is a really nice bike and very comfortable to ride. Like riding a lawn chair.

But you're selling the Sun not based on its qualities. You're giving up the bike because some jerks scared you off the road! I think just find a better place to ride.

Well, I have certainly been there, jsmithy, so I can understand your situation. I used to live in Mpls. in the late '70's and it was like that on every road, shoulders or not. I moved. Keep the bike, it is good for your health if you use it for other rides. I don't suppose there are other, maybe longer routes? Where do you live? Hopefully, in a few years, enough bicyclists will show up that cars will get used to them or maybe the local government will put shoulders on the road when they repave it. You might write a letter to a few local politicos, informing them of your situation and that shoulders should be added. It will take years but for the future, if there is one, it would be good. Good luck and good health.

Kansas City. I agree, it is good for the health. I already feel better after just two weeks.

The only solution I see aside from selling out, is riding in the early morning (5AM) before work. All of these occurences have happened in the 6PM - 8PM timeframe I have been riding in. I'm not real crazy about riding while it's dark or getting up that early, but I have commited to trying it for the next two weeks and then revisiting. I already have the Blackburn Quadrant and Mars 3.0 combo lighting set and they seem to work well.

Stick with it jsmithy. I've got an EZ Sport that I purchased in mid Sept.
last year. I just turned 1200 miles on it and love the bike. I've also encountered
many nasty folks in my travels. Summer and late Spring is the worst time as
that is when the H.S. kids are running aroud with nothing constructive to
do, so for jollies they harrass any and everyone they encounter. The time
of day is also critical. Folks heading home after a long day are already
in a foul mood and it doesn't take much to push them over the edge. Try to
find freindlier more gentle times to ride. You've got a fine machine, not
top of the line mind you, but a great Cruiser. You should enjoy it.

Happy Trails

I'm going to try an NRA sticker on my soon-to-be-delivered Sport AX

Who knows, it might help.

Thanks for all of the help and support. I love my Sport CX, but road riding is not for me. I gave it shot and it hasn't worked out so I am selling it.

No comment on selling the bike, but you may want to reconsider whether you want to sell yourself out. A few weeks is not a fair test for you.

About twenty-five years ago I made a very similar choice that cost me twenty years of enjoyment in cycling. My free advice is to ride, ride, ride for a year or two and then decide.
