I was up there yesterday riding..should be incredible weather!!!
Looks like a few route changes as well...it appears we donot go thru Summerland, but turn right before..so we miss Ortega Hill and only do part of Ortega Ridge Rd..but the new route is a bit steeper I heard!

Anyone wanting to ride as a group..or just come by and say hello....
We are meeting at 6:45 at the start line - Roll at 7AM sharp (providing I dont forget my water bottles like last year:rolleyes:)

I will be wearing the Red BF jersey!

Hey Herb,

I will be there, and will look for you at the shared stops. We are planning on the DM, so we are looking to start no later than 6:30am. The past 2 years we have done the DM, it has be a race from the lunch stop back to Manning Park to meet the cut-off time....and get up Cali hill! I want to avoid such a race (and maybe Cali Hill too:).

We are heading up Friday night...you have any dinner plans yet? Last year we ate at a tasty Italian place on Main (Downtown just west of California). We likley will be heading back.

When you said there are route changes: do you mean different than last year, or different from the route slips on the web site?

I also heard from someone who went on the staff ride last weekend that the 200k has more like 6500 feet rather than the 8500 advertised. He said though that he spent a lot of time in his granny gear; and he's a strong rider.

I'll be doing the 200k on my recumbent, or "couch bike" as someone on this forum referred to it.

I believe the DM and this route are the same, and unless the route has changed from 06 an 07, it is 8500+ feet of climbing. As added in fun, there is a nice and easy climb at mile 103 or so...just a few miles though:thumb::(

So that's why there were freshly painted arrows all over the place! I don't remember which road you called Cali hill. I do those roads all the time, there are some steep-a** climbs back there but fortunately they are all short.

Look for the pink and blue Lightning Velo contingent. I won't be there. :( Racing in Brentwood the next day and I don't want to get dropped like last week. :o

Well, I did this ride with Friend and once again, Helmets off to the Organizers, they did an awesome Job, the route was well marked, which I was thankfull for because I don't know the area at all even though I did the 3 Harbours tour a couple of months ago...but I love riding up in that area...

One thing occured to me yesterday that hasn't before, Centuries are pretty tiring mentaly as well as the obvious Physical side of it, it's 100% concentration all the time, watching the Traffic, looking out for Potholes and other Riders etc...

Also, this is probably just me, but this was my 5th Century this year after ride like Cruise the Canejo, 3 Harbours Tour etc but Cool Breeze beat me up the most for some reason, the Climbs weren't *that* difficult even though I'm not a Climber plus the weather was perfect so I can't blame that..we did start out really fast though for the first couple of SAGs so maybe it was that?

But in any case, it was a great ride with great organization and Volunteers, perfect weather and a nice, fun Day, I'm looking forward to next years ride.

I couldn't ride any Century in less than 6 hours unless it was all downhill with a Tailwind :(

Did you do it? Oh, and is that 6 hrs of saddle time, or start-to-finish (total time)?

So I saw tons of you cool-breezers when I was out for my ride on saturday. Mostly when we were leaving Santa Barbara, people from the century were trickling in. If you saw a group of 20-50 people riding at 20-30mph, that was us :thumb:. I saw a few more people when I was coming back into town. I was going westbound on mountain drive and two people asked me if I was sure I was going the right way :roflmao:

Not exactly. I'm pretty sure it was between Summerland and the second rest stop (just before the Montecito climb)

Hey Steve (Dave from last years Lighthouse),

Saw you speeding up Casitas just as I hit the top from the CB route...gave you a shout and a wave but I don't think you saw.

About an hour later about 8 guys in your kit and 2 others just hangin on flew by us on a flat. We were in a line doing about 23mph, and that group passed me doing 30+....sort of wanted to  My buddy jumped on for a couple of miles, and then got wise as we still had 70+ miles left on the DM.

WTF man, that hill after the brevet control nearly killed me. That wasn't there last year. :)

What a difference a year makes: I did the metric shortly after I started biking, and almost took me out. This year, much stronger and faster, and it was more fun!

:D I was taking it easy up the Casitas climb because I was only riding with them to the lake and I knew I would be spending a long day climbing and didn't want to burn myself out. Fast enough to get to the top in the first handful, but not fast enough to stay with them. Do you remember where and in what direction they passed you on the flats? That must have been the group that went around the lake.

Do you remember which hill?

As an aside, I am on the contact page for Echelon, the main club in Santa Barbara, and I got a call from a woman this morning complaining about "that race" this weekend. I gave her the contact information for the channel islands bike club. Don't get me wrong, she wasn't like frothing at the mouth mad or anything, she was actually very polite, but I was like "we have nothing to do with that, thanks"

Sorry, I don't. It was a smaller, access road. It didn't look maintained like all of the other roads that we were on.

I remember it too--all too well, given that it went as high as 12 degrees, and quite a few people wound up walking part of it. It was just after the surprise brevet check, had no marking, and was definitely new this year. I'm not complaining, mind, but coming shortly before the East Mt. Road climb it made that climb seem all the harder.

Looking at this map (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/kml/episode.kml?episodePkValues=6534370), was it along Santa Rosa Lane near Manning Park?

Edit: If any of you have tried a "dot race" on MotionBased you know how fun they can be. For kicks, I'm racing my ride on Satuday again Raiderdave's. Click here (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/kml/episode.kml?episodePkValues=6534370), select "Real Time" and hit race. If it doesn't work you probably need to install the Adobe SVG viewer (http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install/).

Sorry, I can't tell by the map. Manning Park does sound familiar; I think it was one of the rest stops.

I missed it this year, because (a) I didn't register in time and (b) I have a broken foot.

Which suxxors mightily, because my team ran into Lance, and got to ride with him to the last rest stop. :bang::bang::bang:
