General Cycling Discussion - This is perhaps the best bicycle Christmas ad ever

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This is really neat. It is from a 1963 ad for a Schwinn Racer (3-speed with Sturmey-Archer hub).
I THINK this is from LIFE magazine. Regular price was $56.95, but Schwinn was offering it that season for the reduced price of $49.95.
Anyway, I think that this picture expresses how so many of us feel about bicycling today (and especially how we feel about getting a new bike!). I hope you like the ad. Maybe you will like it enough to go out and get a Schwinn Racer.
It was then, and still is a beautiful bike. Thanks for the pic.

That's awsome! Time for a new background! :)
I don't want to get carried away, but here is another neat ad from a 1931 BOY'S LIFE MAGAZINE.
This is an ad for New Departure coaster brakes. They were quite the neat deal in those days.
Santa is livin' large in this ad, but check out the hocky bicycle "kid"(?) in the lower right hand corner.
Remember, this was at just the start of the Great Depression. A kid with that much goodie gear would have been in High Cotton. My friend John lived through the depression. John tells me that during the depression, you could get a sandwich and a beer for 5 cents. The problem was, he explains, "You couldn't get 5 cents to save your life".
We have to assume this ad was directed toward guys with pretty rich coin.

WOWEE!
I've decided to shop for bicycles at the nearest opportunity, at the nearest thrift shop.
:D
(Dad looks like he expected sonny's reaction to be exactly as it was. C'mon, Dad, you know you're really as thrilled as your kid!)

Heyyyy!!! That kid stole my jammies! :D I had some just like that when I was a kid. Probably about the same year too. I also had a Schwinn with a 3-speed thumb shifter on it. Wasn't that the Sturmey-Archer? Then some dumb girl rode it and wrecked it beyond repair. :( Sure wish I still had it...

JB,
Never let a "dumb girl" ride your bike. I know.
:)
Neat stuff Mike!
Ummm ... how old did you say you were? ;)
Cheers...Gary
