Blue Water Triathlon (http://www.mountainmanevents.com/bluewatertriathlon.htm) in Parker, Arizona. Sunday November 9, 2008.
I'll be doing the Sprint: .6k swim, 15k bike and 4k run.
The bike leg I'm not worried about. I've run longer distances in the past, but I'll need to train for the 4k. The swim is what I think might whoop me. It's only .37 miles, but I'm still worried. I won't be surprised if I finish dead last, but my goal is not to place in the event. I just want to finish!
I'll be riding my hybrid bike. I may have my road bars by then, but I'm not going to count on it. I probably won't have a wetsuit or anything, either. Does the term FRED transfer over to Triathlons?:D
Any pointers or advice from anybody? I'll take all that I can get. I know there are some Clydes on here that have done a few.
Anybody else close to Parker, Arizona? Maybe I'll see somebody there?

First of all! Congrats the attempt! Do it! trust me you wont regret it.
I just did my first this weekend (i'm 6'3 365ish...) My event had a 1/2 mile swim and i didnt really train to well for that.. So the swim KILLED me.. I was reading on Trinewbies.com i believe it says Train your weaknesses not the strengths.. sounds like common sense right...hahah be ready for wobbly legs out the water, since i didnt train properly it really killed my spin... but i did recover. So i'd get a paddle board and practice my stroke or whatever swim you'd prefer.
Your first event... finishing is all that matters! haha Go Team Juggernaut! (Clydes)

talley if you like to follow "programs" there is a "couch to 5k" program. It is 9 weeks in length. I did the program for about 5 weeks and was able to do a 5K. Since you are already riding, this program maybe too easy, but it gives you a plan and other then some mild soreness, it protects you from yourself of wanting to do too much too soon.
Good luck with your first Tri. I have a long ways to go before I consider doing one.
chuckyd if you can do at your size, I guess I don't have any excuses.

good luck, im training to do my first one also but running will kill me my 270lb frame hates running.for swimming if its in a pool pratice your flip turns like crazy since that alone can shave a min or two off your time. if your in lake try to go with current and also tail someone and use drag to your advantage. also i would stress getting a good pair of googles made by tyr or a high end speedo googles at most they will cost 25 bucks but will pay dividends. also do not try to sprint out of the gate wait for about 80% done then go like a bat out of hell.if you need any stroke or other advice holler at me since i was a all county 500 meter swimmer in high school

no problem. do you know if you will be swimming in a pool in a lake. you also have a decent amount of time to train your stroke and endurance in the water.when starting training dont push to hard since you will be more prone to shoulder injuries. also good luck in your triathlon

From the website:
THE SWIM: This is the very best part. Lake Moovalya is formed by the Headgate Dam blocking the Colorado River (see center picture below). The cleanest water in the Southwest. We start North and swim with the very slight current. What a blast! Fast times. Water temp for 2006 was 75° and 2007 was 74°.

Gents! Go get 'em . I don't feel 360ish unless i'm climbing a big hill hahahah
over the past year and a half I've gotten alot of "wow" and "I hope i dont offend you but, I have never seen a guy your size ride like that" hahah My goal is
to lose whatever weight i lose.. as long as i keep improving and getting stronger that number is unimportant to me. So far i'm keeping up with most roadies just riding... now tri is a hole different beast! hahah Go do it fellas! post pics!

congrats on weight loss keep up the good work. ive gone from 310 down to 267 this monring when i weighed myself. i bet if you trained and paced your self you could do and finish a tri. for me i need to work on running since it would take me like 45-60 mins to run 5k

wow that looks like a beautiful place to swim. it looks super clean. i would never swim in the lake by me lol. thats a comfortable water temp, but if you train in pool try to train in super cold water it will make you imune to temp shock and big day and teach you to swim faster since you want to get the hell out of the pool. do you have a training plan set up for swimming since i would recomend you not to exceede 2000 meeters a session.
