I wanted a handlebar-mounted mirror but the short handlebars on my Dahon Mariner don't leave a lot of room for extra equipment (I'll want to get an additional light in the future) and I didn't want to tear up my grips making a hole for a mirror, so I came up with this idea. The bell wasn't getting much use anyway since I started riding on the road instead of the sidewalk, but if I feel the need to use it again I'll turn it around so the switch is on the other side to make it more accessible. The mirror is a 2" blind spot mirror which fits perfectly on the bell.

I anticipate having trouble seeing behind me around curves, but I'll get to test it out tomorrow to see if it really works for me.

Is that so you can ring the bell at people behind you? :)

another great idea!
I have a metal bell...perhaps I could polish it up enough so it's reflective and I can see behind me? mhmmm...

I have never been able to see around curves in front of me.

explain again why the bell is mounted backwards so it's hard to use?

explain again why the bell is mounted backwards so it's hard to use?

Not to mention the fact that the bell's position requires that the rider obscure the mirror to his or her line of sight in order to ring it.

I thought it would be in my way.

This isn't a problem for me. I can reach over the top of the bell with my thumb and ring it that way.
