Foo - photo hosting sites

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was wondering which services people use to post pictures online using a URL. I was uploading pictures to photofun.com, and using the URL from there to post pictures here on bikeforums and on my blogsite. Well now it's acting funny, not showing any picture at all. Also the free membership at photofun.com doesn't allow too many pictures. I've tried Pbase.com and ofoto.com, but both of those won't work when you try to link pictures via a URL. Is there any cheap or free services that are reliable and work?
Also, I wouldn't mind paying a little bit to get something that will let me upload my photos, and also upload video clips so I can send the link to people and they can watch the clips from there. Anyone know what I should do? Please pardon my ignorance with computers!
Thanks-

You also might want to check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider), alot of them now provide personal web space where you can store any photos you would like. Thats what I do now. I first started using the webspace because I wanted to learn some HTML and so I put up a little homepage for my wife and I (and our dog micky), then when I started my blog and needed a way to access pictures, I can just upload them to my personal webspace server account and link to them there.

I thought I would revive this old thread so that people could flame me for bringing one back from the dead, rather than flaming me for not using the search function.
Any way, does anyone have recommendations for free photo hosting web sites?
I like "burnhighergroundwithaflamethrower.com"

Ha! I knew those asbestos boxers would be a good investment! Besides, what are the odds that someone of Irish, Scottish, and Welsh heritage would actually burn?

You can use Picasaweb if you have a google account (free). They generally seem to discourage hotlinking of images to other sites, especially if you strip the link they generate back to the site out like I do, but they don't prevent it. It only offers a limited choice of display sizes, but the free version gives you a fair amount of storage.
I'm picky about photo quality, so I'm a little frustrated that they re-compress the photos after you upload them, but I'm pretty sure most users don't notice the slight loss of quality from this.
If you're willing to pay, a lot of people I've talked to seem happy with SmugMug.

Photobucket gets my vote. Pretty much unlimited storage and they don't limit the size of your images. Well, I set the limit to 1mb per image so they don't re-size or re-compress it. That's good enough for 10mp photos at medium compression. Or I can resize to screen-resolution and get really good quality with minimal compression. They also offer video-hosting as well, with no transcoding to lower-rez & quality like YouTube.

Hmmm, I have been hotlinking (without linking back) 1,000's of my own images for many years in several places and I didn't realize this. Then again, it is kinda tricky to do, so maybe that is part of it.
It is limited to sizes, but I still prefer Picasaweb over everything esle.
If I am in a hurry, I will use Photobucket.

What are the chances of the sun coming up at the beach?
