Do your feet get sores from pushing and pulling like mine do? I don't like wearing socks much as I'm sure most of you don't either because of the way they make your feet slip around in your shoes when skidding. Do you find that any plastic cages or clips work close to efficiently as metal? Maybe I'm exerting pressure on certain parts of my feet that most people don't get since my feet are huge and all.

WTF? is that new fixie-fad? No socks? Ridiculous man, wear some socks, they're there to keep your feet dry. That's probably why you're getting sores in the first place.

I don't wear socks most of the time. If you actually clean your feet in the shower and keep your shoes clean it is not very nasty at all.

I stopped wearing socks at the tender age of 4.
do you use the 4-gate soma clips? they are notorious for having a couple ****ty pressure points.

I would think the type of shoes would have more effect on reducing the pressure points than socks...
Have you tried clipless yet?

Now that you mention it, this seems to be the new trend at my college too. I've always noticed those shoes getting reallly popular but only now have i noticed that not wearing socks is half the trend. Thanks for the hip tip. Regardless, I wear socks all the time to keep my feet dry, snug, and free from stinking.
i wear vans authentic with no socks some of the time when its real hot/with shorts. ankle socks are stupid with vans, thats why.
but yeah, socks make sense. i can't see sperrys being comfortable for riding, either. unless its around the block for a photoshoot or something

thanks for the tip, i'm taking my ankle socks off right now. i'd much rather have blisters and shoes that smell like rotting garbage as long as i look cool.

if you want the benefit of not wearing socks (the way it looks) but want the benefit of socks (no sores, no smell, snug fit) then just go to Journey's and buy these socks.

sometimes i don't wear socks, as someone noted sometimes it feels better not wearing socks, i feel more connected to the pedals with just slip ons, i am well aware of smelly situations for sure but my feet don't get that smelly

And nah I ride single gates, maybe it's my flat large feet but I'm getting lots of pressure points on my feet, even from the pedals. I think I may switch to power grips so I can slide my feet up further. So ugly though. :/

I have some sperry shoes that I wear that are pretty much the same thing as vans authentics, and my feet still get torn up. I've heard that power grips are pretty **** tho.

1) no.
2) ew, you're nasty.
3) never had to use them.
4) if you want metal, try the soma oppy 4x gates with two straps. best clips i've used to date.
sounds to me like you need to wear socks instead of getting sores on your nasty stinky feet. i'm throwing up on the inside just thinking about it.

If your socked feet are sliding around in your shoes when doing skids, either your shoes are not sized right, they are not tied right, or they are the wrong shoe for the application.
Change them up or learn how to tie them correctly.

i don't trust plastic clips. i rode with them on my ten speed for a few months.
once while i was pumping up a hill, pulling up on the cranks, my right clip came off, over both screw heads. the plastic had deformed from normal use.
so i rock metal cages instead.

There you go... much better.
If you are still adament about not wearing socks, save those for when you need to be suave - buy a couple of pairs of sub par Chuck T's @ Target.
And remember, hygiene is never underrated.

The sockless trend began in the universities in the late 60's as a way of "getting back at the man" by not adhering to anything that was a cultural norm. When I went to college in the 90's I had a professor who never wore socks, rarely shaved, and otherwise emulated the "hipster" look. He also seemed to shower rarely, apparently personal hygiene was too bourgeoises for him. Unfortunately, there are still many like him around.
Not wearing socks will allow sweat and body oils to accumulate in your shoes. Washing your feet 5 times a day will not make a difference. This accumulated mess in your shoes will be transmitted to your feet every time you wear them. Such an environment is a great home from nail fungus and other nasty bugs. These bugs are difficult to get rid of once they make a home in your feet.
Do as your mother says, and wear clean socks every day. You don't want to make her cry, do you?

Same here.
I've never been a big fan of socks. If I'm wearing dress shoes sure but every day life, no socks for me.
