What is the max size tire one can fit on a stock pista?

I have found a way for my commute to contain a bit of gravelly double-track and it is a great way to unwind on the way home. Unfortunately, the 23's I'm currently running aren't faring so well against fist-sized rocks and railroad debris. I'm looking for something with a bit more sidewall and tread. I would like to run 32mm cross tires (at least up front), but would settle for 28's.

So, if you've run large tires on your pista, speak up. Oh, and suggestions on rubber if you have them.

Thanks,

-Rob.

The front clearance on my Pista (not concept) will allow only modest 28's at the max, but the back tire has quite a bit of clearance. Actually a lot of people I know use bigger tires in the back, and skinny in the front. I would recommend avoiding those rocks and railroads with your 23 rims either way!

The only time I have had trouble with the 23's I was loaded, it was 3am, and I was riding by moonlight. I woke up in the morning and the rear tire was flat.

28's in the front, huh? Funny, it looked like it had more clearance in the back.

Yeah 23 for life! But it does have a little clearance on the front, for slightly larger. Makes way more sense to go for the big one on the back though.
