That's right, this guy rode 1,000km from Sydney to Melbourne on a unicycle!
Seek LifeCycle for CanTeen - One man, One wheel and 1000kms
Samuel Johnson – one of Australia’s most talented actors and star of The Secret Life of Us, Crackerjack and After the Deluge, hopped on his unicycle on the 24
October and rode from Sydney to Melbourne to raise much needed funds and awareness for CanTeen.
At the age of 11, Samuel’s then 12-year-old sister – Constance, was diagnosed with cancer and Samuel turned to CanTeen to help guide him through his years of living with cancer. Samuel and Constance were regular attendees at the Patients, Siblings and Offspring weekends and Samuel could often be found providing entertainment for the other Members by riding his unicycle around camp. The 33-day Seek LifeCycle for CanTeen was Samuel’s way of giving back to the organisation that helped him through some of the toughest years of his life.
Luckily for the Johnson family, their journey with cancer was one of triumph and Constance – now in remission – was one of the many hundreds of people waiting to greet Samuel as he crossed the finish line at Federation Square, Melbourne on November 25th 2003 after completing his 1000km journey.
The event saw Samuel ride an average 37kms per day throughout NSW, ACT and VIC and the local community support along the way was outstanding. Our thanks go out to these numerous supporters, Seek.com.au, Motorola, and Best Western Hotels. Thanks also to our Event Management companies Synergy Sports Marketing and Sporting Spectrum who made the event happen. We would also like to say a big thank you to Samuel who bought his idea to us and saw it through – we are very grateful.
You can read his diary entries during the ride on the link below. I reckon that's a pretty fair effort!
