Completed a Sprint Tri last year in a bathing suit on a mountain bike. :thumb: The chafing was horrendous. :notamused:
The same race is coming up again in a month... I'm not doing it in a bathing suit again...
Recommend some basic gear for me? And where to buy it?
Thanks!!
[edit: I've got a road bike now. Mostly interested in clothing suggestions]
Look for tri shorts and a tri top, or a one piece triathlon skinsuit (called a tri suit). The tri shorts cost $40-$60, the tri tops cost $25-$50, or the tri suits cost $70-$100. Trisports.com has a decent selection to get you started.

I have a question also. My first tri will be a sprint in about 3 weeks. I have bought some tri shorts, what type of top do most guys wear. I usually like to run in just my sleevless nike shirt. Would that be fine or do they make specific tri tops.

I answered your question in the post directly above yours:

Specific tri-tops are designed to be worn in the swim too. They fit quite a bit tighter than a typical running shirt, and sometimes have pockets in the back like a bike jersey.
If you don't want to spend the money on a tri top, just swim topless, and throw on a running shirt for the bike/run.

I use a under armor or nike sleeveless fitted dri fit usually. Works fine for me, there are tons of other brands that make pretty much the same things, i mean if you read labels the materials are pretty close when you compare a champion dri-fit to a under armor or nike or a tri-top.
