Does anyone know what the axles on the dura-ace 7700 hubs are made of? I know that on the XTR of the same year, they are Ti, but what about on the dura-ace? if the axle is cromo, is it possible to put an XTR axle in its place? The weight-weenie roadie is coming out in me...

I believe the axles are aluminium.

on the front it is. but what about the rear?
Axle is probably aluminum; freehub body like the XTR body is titanium.

I don't know what it's made out of but an XTR axle is going to be too long and won't allow the QR to anchor the hub in the dropouts.

Won't the fact that road and mountain axles are different lengths cause a problem? I'm still pretty sure the DA is aluminum on the rear also.

Hmm, I thought of that...I wouldn't be too hard to trim it though, its just 2.5mm off each side. no biggie there.
if the rear is aluminum, then I wont screw (haha, get it?) with it then. it doesn't LOOK aluminum though...

Maybe too long, maybe not. It depends on the thickness of the dropouts. I respaced a 130mm rear hub down to 126mm and did not have to swap or saw the axle.
