Hello All,
For those in the Northern California area you might check out the City of Folsom's Cyclebration (http://www.folsomcyclebration.com). There is a road century ride and if you have a MTB tandem is a dirt time trial and XC MT bike race with a tandem class. (you can do the whole MTB stage race, one event or both).
Hope to see you out there!

My wife saw an Ellsworth MTB tandem at the Northwest Tandem Rally and said "i'd give it a try". However - I'm not gonna blow 5k on an experiment.
Know of any places in the Sac area that I could RENT a Ventana or Ellsworth for a day?

You see, the trick here is to go in on the low-end with a previously owned hardtail tandem and then, assuming y'all have a good time, make the point that a full-suspension off-road tandem would be much more comfortable for your stoker... :innocent: which in fact it is.
I got Debbie's feet wet with a '98 C'dale MT3000 in '99 and had her on our first Ventana by March '00. The next trick was making the argument that as the components on the first Ventana began to get dated and worn that it would actually be cheaper to sell it and buy a new one vs. doing a full component upgrade.:thumb:

The only flaw in that argument - is that she's already made the move from a hardtail to a FS bike - one that is fairly highend. That move alone got her to ride more offroad.
However - that being said - i'd wouldn't mind trying a hardtail MTB tandem offroad - just don't want to spend the $$$ on something that i'm pretty sure i'd have to unload after a short period of time.

Yes, you'll see me there, but I'll either be running the start, finish or taking photos!... but I know at least 4 other tandems are going to be there!
It would be nice to start an annual tandem SOMETHING in Sacramento! As long as I have a part, I'll be sure there is a MTB tandem class in the soon to be annual Folsom Cyclebration!

We're considering the tandem time trial...it all looks like fun.

The dirt TT would be a good event especially for a newer tandem team, there are really only 2 technical parts on the course. One where you go down next to a set of old steps and the other is the final bumpy uphill (100 feet) to the finish area. The course has been posted (http://www.racemtb.com/Cyclebration/MtbTT_All.jpg). Hope to see you there!
