I've been skateboarding in Boston for 20+ years. I was around when Shepard F. first started making the Andre stickers way back in the late 80's in Rhode Island. Since then it has been co-opted so many times, by so many different groups. Mainstream marketing copies the "got milk" slogan. Sub-cultures copy Andre. The literary liscenses have been issued. Out all the ones I've seen over the years, I really like "Sheldon's Posse."
glad i got so many responses so quick :thumb:
i think it's a cool idea, didn't mean to be harsh at all, if thats how it seemed. but sheldon is/was great, the site is and will be hopefully for a long time a great source of knowledge.

haha thanks. part of the original concept behind the giant phenomenon was to see how far it would spread. i think the sheldon brown adaptation is a perfect example of how shepard's work was such a huge success, popping up in unexpected places and becoming subliminally familiar to almost anyone with a reasonably observant eye.

I think the dood just went to school in Rhode island.
I think he started out in South Carolina.
So saying represent anything when it's all over tons of cities is kinda GHEY son.
who cares.

i dont know if its still there or not, but there was a page on the obey site that you could send your own "has a posse" rip offs to and people could look at them. there were hundreds. shepard fairey wouldnt be pissed, not lame. omg wtf internet and text abbreviations are ****ing lame. i hope youre joking.

He went to school in RI. A ton of the RI people used to come up and skate the now defunct ZT Maximus skate park in Cambridge, MA. Hence, Providence and Boston were the first two cities where the whole thing popped up. I know. I was there.
Moreover, there was nothing "serious" about it during it's formative years, so now attempting to inject some kinda "hands off don't byte this legit graphic" attitude is about 20 years too late.
yep. i really wasn't trying to say get off that graphic we did it first. hey they did it around the time i was born, what do i know. just my best friend hung out at a print shop when he was young with his uncle when they were printing that stuff.
i'm surprised more sheldon spoke card ideas haven't been coming up lately. people have thrown the ideas out there, but no one has actually done anything?

Here's what 1/2 of you don't understand:
Obey Giant is only legit to 10 yr old skater wannabe kids. As legit in bikes as:

Jonny-***-lately streetwear doin-what-the-kids-are-doin crap.
Embarassing for Sheldon.

That OBEY theme is dumb for a bike but the bike itself is friggin NICE. I hadnt seen one in person until recently and I didnt realize it wasnt just a standard Fuji track bike. It's actually really nice.
As far as "has a posse" is concerned, it will never stop. it will keep going for ever with everyone ever having a posse. Sorry. Kinda like support ribbons for dumb stuff and the mastercard priceless ads... its just that easy.

No ****.
It doesn't bother me that much if lots of people ride cloned track bikes. At least they ride.
I'll still make fun of them, but I don't get pissed about it :D

What I'm having trouble getting my head around is the following koan:
What spoke cards do you put on a Obey track bike? The whole bike is a spoke card.
