Tandem Cycling - What to watch out for?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So a couple of weeks ago my Wife said she would be interested in a tandem...so I of course have spent much time looking for one. I found one that is of interest and affordable...well...reasonable...well you know what I mean...lol. From what I can tell, it is a 2002 Cannondale RT3000. Blue/white paint scheme.
So as an ignorant beginner, what should I be looking for and/or listening for?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide. After reading about 10 pages worth of posts, I figured it may be easier just to ask. :D

Oh, you did, did you? :roflmao2: When you're done reading those two posts TandemGeek gave you, then go to his site, www.thetandemlink.com (http://www.thetandemlink.com), and click on the "Learning" button up top. Then click on the first link on the top left of that page titled "Information for 1st Time Tandem Buyers & Riders".
I'm taking you in the long way rather than giving you a direct link so you have an opportunity to see some of what's there. If you were to try to click, follow and read everything that's available on TandemGeek's site, you'd be done maybe this time next year!
But hey! You asked!! :D

Biggest thing with a used tandem is fit. The wrong sized bike is not a bargin.
Next biggest thing is what kind of shape its in.
Used CDale RT3000 if it fits you, in decent shape would be a very nice bike.

Thanks all for the links and comments. I hope the CDale is the right fit as it is the smallest one they made a M/S frame. From the spec sheet it should work out as my wife and I are both 5'6". But I do understand and realize that a wrong sized bike is not a good thing. Seems everything else mechanically related is pretty much the same as a single bike. So hopefully this weekend might be it, but if not, well I now have more places to look...:D
Thanks again all for the hints and suggestions.
