I work right next door to The Monte Carlo in Las Vegas. I go outside to eat my lunch and I was noticing the shift change of the bicycle security officers. I went and said hi to one of them and started talking bicycles with him. Then he showed me their special bike rack full of identical Raleigh bicycles. There were a couple dozen of them at least, and that's not counting the ones that were in use at the time around the property. I didn't catch the model of the bike as they were behind a locked gate, but they were pretty nice. All of them had fenders and rear racks with trunk bags. One cool thing I noticed was tactical gear mounted on the bikes. On the stem there was a mount for what looked like a can of pepper spray. From what the guard tells me each officer has his or her own bike that only they use. When they go home for the day, their bike gets locked up. Each person on every shift has their own bike. That way nobody comes after you leave and messes with your settings.
They just got new bikes recently. They had Specialize Hardrocks before. When they made the switch, they sold the bikes to the employees for 25$ each, and the guards got first dibs. The bikes were definitely used, but all of the miles out on the bikes were pretty easy miles, just patrolling the property. What a deal!

On another note, while walking back to work I counted about 30 bikes locked up by the front gate of the jobsite. Most of them were Murray, Huffy, Next, Magna and Roadmaster. But I did see a couple of Treks, Cannondales, and Specialized in the mix. It's kind of a shame though, that most of them aren't locked very securely. There are enough guys riding to work that I think I could get a petition going for a bike rack for us. Everybody is just chaining their bikes to a chain link fence. A few of us are lucky to get there early enough to lock through the fence and around a fencepole.
