Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - EAI Cogs OUt of Stock

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Does anyone know of a store online I can order EAI cogs?
I have checked 3 or 4 places and everyone is out of stock with no estimate on when they will get more.
This shortage seems to apply to certain sizes in 1/8".
I am trying to get the deluxe (cheaper one) in 17 teeth for an 1/8" chain.
Alternatively I can get a surly or more expensive EAI but I want to try and save some money. And although I could wait for them to be re-stocked, I don't think my knees can wait that long.
I have been running 48 x 15 and let me tell you that is pretty tall for the hills around here and my knee health. Plus I want to be able to cut a chain to use both a 17 t fixed cog and my 18 tooth freewheel on a formula flip flop hub, keeping the 48 tooth front chainring.
Any ideas, suggestions? Other cogs that people might suggest? Will I be able to run an 18 t freewheel and a 17 t fixed cog?
ben's? lbs?
Bens is out of stock.
Harris is out of stock.
A few others too (in that particular size).
The LBs can get Surly or Rockworks (sp ?) in that size.
I have heard of Surly but not rockworks.
I really wish dura-ace came in 17t. Do you hear me Shimano?

I will call peter white cycles tomorrow.
Anyone know if either the EAI, Milwaukee, or Surly would give me the same chainline as the Dura-Ace?
I am certainly no mechanic and want to make sure I get the same quality and chainline I get with what I currently have. I would stick with what I know but of course I can't get the size I want.
Wow I to am running 48x15 due to not being able to find an 18t 1/8 cog.

To some that's just as meaningful as an NJS stamp believe it or not.

Yeah, mostly people who were born in Milwaukee or other strange midwest cities.

You mean small midwestern machine shops.
Its not the same thing.
AMF did OK way back with some quality stuff. They weren't exactly small, I know, but some of their brands were quite acceptable. I especially liked the T-shirts back in the 70s that had the AMF/Head logo on them and said Give me Head.

A cog is a cog is a cog. Surly, Soma, Rockwerks, DuraAce, Bens, IRO, EAI..any of these will do the trick. Buy whichever is cheapest. You won't notice the difference.

Surly are just rebranded, cheap ass Grunge cogs...or the other way around. Either way, depending on the packaging, you could save a lot of money or waste a lot of money.
Whatever you do youll have a mediocre cog.

i was in the same situation a few weeks ago. my lbs (business cycles) was out of the eai deluxe 17t (1/8") and he said that eai was completely out of them as well.
i ended up going w/ the milwaukee 17t. so far, its great!
eai is having all production efforts focus on the superstar for the olympics they will resume normal production after olympics

That's some pretty poor production planning, not that I believe your statement.

I just bought a 19t, 1/8" eai cog (not deluxe) at the clean machine in carrboro, n.c. this past weekend - they had several other sizes in stock also. Kind of pricey @ $39 + tax.
Supply and command; denial and error.
Dobber thats what I was told by my lbs a week ago apparently they are suppling a lot of the cogs for the Olympics
i suspect eai cogs are discontinued, there was a time when the 17T were in abundance..

I was bummed out when I went to pick up a Phil cog at my LBS recently only to find they'd just sold the one I needed and had no more in stock. This was the last thing I needed in completing this bike and I was really anxious to start riding it, so I went with the only other option they had in that size -- a Surly. The LBS guy, who is very trustworthy, told me it was good, and he was right. The bike that I put the Surly is whisper quiet. I have a Phil cog on another bike, and an EAI on another -- they are both great, but the Surly is hands-down the quietest of the three.
So don't be a cog snob!
it sucks that such a good product like eai cogs/lockrings are all but extinct.

I'd bet you a zillion dollars (i can do that because i'm a zillionaire) that the "whisper quiet" ride has everything to do with chainline and 0 to do with the cog.
swap the cogs to prove it.
in fact, i'd bet that the phil is quieter on whatever you have the surly on; depending on the eai model, it might be even quieter.
i rode a 16t da on my bob jackson for like a month. i thought it was the quietest thing ever. then i bought a 16t superstar. now, i literally only hear the carbon of my fork resonating when i'm moving fast at night.
i'll send you my paypal info for that zillion later.
wait i dont get it. it doesnt have to do with the cog you are saying, but the chainline.
but you state the eai superstar is quiter than the da you had? doesnt that have to do with the cog?
yeah, in his instance. should've been clearer... here, i'll illustrate:
-bike 1 has an eai
-bike 2 has a phil
-bike 3 has a surly
-bike 3 is the quietest
in his situation, bike 3 isn't quiet because the cog is superior, but because the chainline on bike 3 is closer to 0 offset than on bike 1 or bike 2.
to illustrate this (kinda) further:
-bike 1a has a da
-bike 1b has an eai ss
-bikes 1a and 1b have identical chainlines
-bike 1b has a quieter drivetrain than bike 1a
this is because the cog is superior. all things equal, cog matters more. in his case, all things are not equal.
i may or may not have gone to far with this post.

I realize there are other factors like the chain and the chainline (though they are all track bikes and the chainlines are perfect). I don't want go switching the cogs on all my bikes to prove something. My point was just that I put a Surly cog on a bike and it is extremely quiet and smooth. If there was something inferior about a Surly cog -- which is what a lot of people seem to be saying -- wouldn't it be making noise even with a perfect chainline? How else do you judge a cog?
i bet it's quiet 'cause all the teeth broke off.
Ohhh i gotcha. it sometimes doesn't matter, but in some cases it definitely CAN matter is what you're saying. cool.
so, all things said, best bang for buck 17 tooth 1/8" cog ?
