Tandem Cycling - Going out of business sale

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
To those currently looking to purchase a tandem:
I live in Portland Oregon and one of our local "tandem" shops is going out of business. My wife and I were just there grabbing some deals on "extras" and of course we had to eyeball the bikes before leaving. Let me just say, they have taken some drastic markdowns on all their tandems including a beautiful Santana carbon/ti model. Most of the twofers were Santanas with a couple Devincis I think and one Pinarello(?).
If you're in the market, know pretty much exactly what you want/need and are sure of your sizes it might be a great idea to give them a call and inquire about what they have left. I have no idea if they'd ship or not nor am I in anyway affiliated with the shop, however, I know good deals when I see them and believe me, they have some really good deals. They also have a couple triplets in stock.
The shop is "Gateway Bicycles" on Halsey in Portland OR.
Us, well we scored some clothing deals, of course extra tires/tubes, some cool Rudy Project glasses and last but certainly not least...
I scored a Cervelo R3!!!!!!!!!! All I have to do is rip off all the DuraAce parts and replace with Campy and I'm ready to rock!!!!
This was an "impulse buy" that's how good the deals were.

Sorry to hear they are closing up shop...
Fortunately this is not a case of economics. These guys finally realized there's more to life than work, working weekends and not enjoying the sport they so graciously supported for years.
They're all very excited about the upcoming opportunities ahead.

That sounds all well and good, but one of the reasons you build a business is so when you decide to move on you can sell the business and realize the equity you've created based on your annual sales history along with your value of your inventory; Yes?
Seems like I'm missing something here... Perhaps there are just too many other bicycle dealers in the area?
Regardless, glad to hear they've got other plans and that the community will enjoy some great bargains as they clear their shelves and back room.

True. The economics of their operation must have been marginal. Sometimes its possible for a small business to do just well enough to stay afloat run by working owners, but not be sufficiently viable for a new owner to purchase looking to earn an income,as well as finance the purchase.
Also the business may have incurred debts, greater than its assets.
Our favorite LBS in Richmond Virginia just closed doors and liquidated after several attempts to sell it didn't come through.
Actually, this is a good market for bike shops.
Something about the price of gas........

Is this a new bike and do you have a home for the D/A parts?

Comes a time when 'retirement' is not just a dream; do it!
Been retired for 13+ years and lovin' it; there's many other things to do besides working!
