Fifty Plus (50+) - 49 for 4 more days; can I still join?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I got home today from doing one of those rites of passage when you turn 50 involving a camera and; well, we won't go into where they put it. I was looking for a post I had seen relating to this and was going to post there, but could not find it. Anyway, I've been reading the posts on this particular forum for some time and figured this would be as good as any time to chime in. I have recently gotten back in to cycling after a long time, and wanted to say hey from a soon to be 50er in southwest Ohio.

Lets not get too hasty. Maybe yugdlo is a hot female.

I claimed USA Cycling rules applied, and no-one disagreed.

Under their rules, your racing age is calculated on the year only, exclusive of month and day. Therefore, as of January 1, everyone born in 1958 is 50.

I think Retro Grouch has a point... We need to know gender and attachment status... at least so we know which of us are going to argu for and against early membership. :)

Welcome yugdlo!

He's a fellow Southwest Ohio resident and that should be good enough:thumb:

Uh... yugdlo is "oldguy" backwards. I say we should let him in early, but only if he brings pie.

Does social security let you collect early?

Just think yugold ... you have named yourself an "old guy" but in 3 days, you will be the youngest legitimate member of this forum! The new kid on the block. Of whom many of us will be envious of your youth.

At least try to get his name right. In another couple of days he will be one of us......:twitchy:

I get a kick when not-even-50+'rs have the temerity to call themselvs, one way or another, "old guy" - no matter how disguised.

And the 2nd thought - if someone 49 is an "old guy" what does that make those of us over 65?

No, please - don't respond to that.

By the time the original debate is supplanted by discussions of the best flavor of pie, Brooks saddles, and explanations of N+1 your question will be moot.

Welcome, and we need a description and pictures of your bike.

Yes, my username is oldguy backwards. It's a carry over from playing paintball where I was the "old guy".
Anywho.....
Pie? how bout sugar cream?
Bike? 1975 Motobecane Grand Jubilee I bought new when I was in high school. But as you can see from the attached picture, is still in pretty good shape considering her age. That's how I found this site, I came accross a C&V post, and as they say, the rest is history.

Sorry, we can't make an exception in your case for the following reasons:

1. Your garage door has a funny design. It looks more like a fence.
2. You're not experienced enough to know to have put your chain onto the big ring before taking your bike's photo. I suppose that wisdom will come in a few more days.
3. You own a beautiful, vintage, French bike that has not faded and has no paint chips. Surely there's another bike that you really ride.
4. You're not a hot female. I know that's sexist, but we might as well admit the truth.

On the other hand, I've never tasted sugar cream pie. There's a possibility that could trump everything else.

Yeah, we can't let people in here that make smart alec remarks about things at the drop of a hat.

Next thing you know every discussion will involve pies and other stuff that is irrelevant.

Not that pie is irrelevant, or anything I have seen in any threads, but it might happen some day if we let just anyone in.

Don't let that picture fool you. It has it's share of road scars. And some upgrades. It started out French; now its kind of a euro-asian mix. Plus after schooling, life kinda got in the way of any serious attempts at riding. My serious riding started to wane. When my twin daughters were born we did use it to pull a bugger around until they out grew that. After that she got relagated to an occasional trip to the corner grocery. So the bike has kind of had an extended vacation.
But.... this spring I started making time to ride. I've started getting back in the groove and have lots of questions for the learned folks in this forum, but that is for other posts.

LEARNING FOLKS. He obviously spelled it wrong. That's one way that we can know for sure how well he's going to fit in.
