Fifty Plus (50+) - I haven’t a clue what I have.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have decided to give another kind of riding a try. After riding for the last few months I am feeling better than I have in a very long time. I believe there will be a road bike in my future but I am holding out till I have enough to get something I like. But I have wanted to get something a bit better on dirt trails and short hill climbing so I decided on a used bike. I tried several different Bikes including a Specialized Hard rock and Gary Fisher Marlin. They were both nice bikes but they felt a bit too compact for me. I am only 5’9” but I need more stretch room. So I picked a bike that I like the fit of and the weight but I haven’t a clue to just what it might be? It looks a bit like a cross between a Giant Boulder and a Yukon. Looks like it has a Boulder frame and a Yukon gear set. All I know is I like the way it feels and I got a better seat tossed in. At least better for my Bottom.

If it fits you, and you enjoy riding it, who cares what brand it is?
+one....if you like the bike, ride it till it becomes even more comfortable and you will not care what the paint says.

It is kinda hard to see what it is, with both pictures taken in the shade.
What kind of fork is on it, rigid or suspension?
All companies have some bikes that are odd combinations of parts. They run short of some parts in production, or they were early demo models that were assembled out of the parts bins. I've seen some odd combinations here at big Trek stores because of the proximity of Trek's headquarters & factory.
Do you like the ride of the new bike better than the Revive?

I agree it doesn’t matter to me what brand it is. I like the way it fits me, and how it shifts and rides. I need to tweak it a bit and get used to the different riding position but yes I am enjoying it. Did 27 miles today and different parts hurt in different places but I think it will work out. It is pretty light for one with a front suspension. I had no trouble keeping up with my group and it is easier to climb. I plan on riding it on my off days from riding with my LBS group.
I don’t believe it is as comfortable as the Revive but I don’t think the Revive will do in the dirt of our local lake trail. For group rides I will stay with the Revive and for now put some miles solo on the trail bike. Like the advice I have been given in these forums I need more base miles.
I will start saving for a road bike and may be in a position to get one by the first of the year.

As long as you like riding it- No problem. Secondhand and a bike would have changed a bit from OE spec. Mostly it is for the good so don't worry too much- just get out and get it muddy and enjoy the ride.

I am as surprised as you. But I just might look into it. I decided to join the local bike club and they have quite a few Roadies in this club. They tend to be a little bit more aggressive than the touring group that I ride with but I can deal with that. My concern is the seating position. So if I can get used to this flat bar who knows? But until my hands stop tingling at the 15 mile mark I will be cautious about committing myself. It is just that when I look at the seat on a typical road bike and look at my back end in the mirror I just have my doubts.
Anyway my last check up at the doctor was one of the better ones I have had in years. Weight is dropping, blood pressure is dropping and my cholesterol is the best it has been in 20 years. However I was just thinking how nice of a present something like the Jamis Venture Sport that I test rode the other day for my birthday.
As Stapfam has suggested I am just planning on using the heck out of this bike and having fun doing it.
