Looking for advice on heart monitors that work on a tandem. We both wear Polar and her's is a high end one that is not supposed to pick up my heart beat. The only way it works is for her to keep it in her jersey pocket.

You need to be about 6' away from her when she starts her HRM. If you're too close her HRM is just as likely to pick-up the signal on your chest strap as hers. Once she has her HRM up and running, then you can approach the bike and there shouldn't be any interference.

In the event that she occassionally finds she's picking up your HRM when you're following this procedure... noting that it's quite possible since at least one of the frequencies in her transmitter will be the same as yours ...she will need to restart her HRM while you move away from the tandem. The likelihood that the same, matching frequency would be picked up again is pretty remote.

We also ride with Polars. I have the 400 on the handlebars and my wife has the 726. She started with it on her wrist. Her hand position put her wrist closer to my chest strap than hers, so she would get interference and occasionally pick up my heartrate. i got a handlebar mount for her and the problem ceased. I think the reason is that her send receive is closer to each other. The other reason is that her watch is blocked by my body. Might try it.

My wife and I both use Polar 720's - they are coded so there is no interference at all. She has separate pickups for speed and cadence as well and her's is on the stoker bars.
